Michelle Hayes 0:00
For.

Rich Bennett 0:01
over four years ago, I had this young lady come on the podcast and it was the most downloaded episode. The sad thing is she does not remember coming on. She did not remember how to get here, even though she's been here before. She didn't even remember who the hell I am. So I don't even know why the hell I asked her to Come on. I mean.

Michelle Hayes 0:28
She.

Rich Bennett 0:28
She's.

Michelle Hayes 0:30
Remember me next week.

Rich Bennett 0:31
No. She'll remember you better than me.

Sydney Brackins 0:34
I remember her because of banjo.

Michelle Hayes 0:38
Remember the dog

Sydney Brackins 0:39
But it's because I've gotten

Michelle Hayes 0:41
hit

Sydney Brackins 0:41
hit too

Michelle Hayes 0:41
to.

Sydney Brackins 0:41
many times in the head ridge. Come on.

Rich Bennett 0:44
Okay. So we have Sensei Sydney on. I got to get a picture after her so I can send it to my niece. Like. Yeah.

Sydney Brackins 0:51
Yeah.

Rich Bennett 0:51
Guess who I was with today. She doesn't remember me because she was.

Michelle Hayes 0:55
You.

Sydney Brackins 0:56
Oh, my goodness.

Rich Bennett 0:58
And of course, I had. Shell he's joined. Houston, but.

Michelle Hayes 1:01
Yes.

Rich Bennett 1:03
Well, damn, it's funny because now there's a lot we could catch up on with Sydney because Sydney does not remember.

Michelle Hayes 1:10
Oh.

Sydney Brackins 1:13
This is perfect.

Rich Bennett 1:15
So Sydney is the sense one of the senses. Empire Dojo.

When you were on? Well, we talked about how.

Michelle Hayes 1:26
I think it was your plan.

Rich Bennett 1:27
I thought that you had gotten. Or was it the Sensei title?

Sydney Brackins 1:31
No is the first degree black belt.

Rich Bennett 1:32
First degree black belt. So you told us about that? You told me something about something that I found extremely amazing. And I know you and Lewis went back to Japan and did some more, and that was the variety. What did they call it?

Sydney Brackins 1:49
The calligraphy, the writing.

Rich Bennett 1:52
Yeah, but were they calling in?

Sydney Brackins 1:53
Shoto.

Rich Bennett 1:54
Yeah, that. Oh, my God. Do you know what that is? Well, I guess she just gave it away to calligraphy.

Michelle Hayes 2:00
It's called Shoto.

Sydney Brackins 2:02
Yes.

Rich Bennett 2:03
You know why? Okay. Don't you start on me, too.

Michelle Hayes 2:06
I have a friend right here who would love to tell you about it.

Rich Bennett 2:09
Well, she's about to. But first I want I got to see I got to go back since she doesn't remember. So even though the listeners probably do tell everybody

Michelle Hayes 2:19
Yeah.

Rich Bennett 2:19
how.

Michelle Hayes 2:20
You got your.

Rich Bennett 2:20
First degree black belt.

Sydney Brackins 2:22
Yeah. So there's a lot that went. Before I did the actual black belt test itself. So the training up to that point involves what are called cities as it's being stress inoculation tests. And one of those I spoke about at the last podcast, which was.

Rich Bennett 2:41
You do remember that?

Sydney Brackins 2:43
I'm. It's coming back, Rich, if anyone's tuning.

Episode better be named the Sensei Sydney Diss track.

But yeah, so.

Michelle Hayes 2:57
You know you can do

Sydney Brackins 2:59
We basically asshats are supposed to be impromptu, so you're not supposed to know about them in advance because otherwise then there's less stress involved if you can plan for it. The concept is you can't plan for it. You just have to use your skills

Michelle Hayes 3:13
bills

Sydney Brackins 3:13
you've

Michelle Hayes 3:13
you.

Sydney Brackins 3:14
acquired up to that point to handle them to the best of your capability. So I came into class one night and, you know, Lewis Sensei Lewis told me, Hey, go in that bathroom slash closet there. And I'm like, okay. So I went in the closet, everyone. And there were eight people in class that night besides myself.

Rich Bennett 3:32
Did you know that? Did you know it was part of the test at that time?

Sydney Brackins 3:35
As soon as he told me to go into a closet or slash bathroom, I was like, Yeah, I know. What's going

Rich Bennett 3:40
Okay.

Sydney Brackins 3:40
on. Yeah. So when I came back out, everyone was lined up in two rows and then everyone had a training knife. So obviously not sharp, just a replica. And so I look at Sensei Louis, he says, okay, you got to walk past everybody, walk back and just

Michelle Hayes 3:59
Keep

Sydney Brackins 3:59
keep doing

Michelle Hayes 3:59
doing that.

Sydney Brackins 4:00
that.

Rich Bennett 4:00
How many people?

Sydney Brackins 4:02
I think I misspoke. So I said eight. I think it was actually six.

Michelle Hayes 4:05
Six.

Sydney Brackins 4:05
So I think it was three.

Michelle Hayes 4:06
Three.

Sydney Brackins 4:08
So every single person had a knife. And so I looked at him. I'm like, That's it.

Michelle Hayes 4:12
He's like

Sydney Brackins 4:12
That's

Michelle Hayes 4:12
that.

Sydney Brackins 4:12
a big smile on his face. I'm like. So I'm walking down and he immediately calls out a number. And so unbeknownst to me, each person had a number assigned in. He would call, they would come and attack me with a knife. So I was able to disarm the first three individuals and prevent myself from being stabbed. And then it got.

Michelle Hayes 4:37
Think.

Sydney Brackins 4:38
Yeah. And that's that's pretty good. But then the fourth individual came up, and so this individual's name is Adam, so I hope he's listening. Adam is still a student of our school, and at this point in time, so Adam is. Oh, my goodness. He's so he's taller than I think he's at the same height or a little taller than you rich.

Rich Bennett 4:59
Okay.

Sydney Brackins 5:00
And he's

I would say I don't know. Big guy,

Rich Bennett 5:06
Okay.

Sydney Brackins 5:07
really, really broad. So he he's always been a good training partner in the sense that he always pushed and challenged me. He's the type of guy that I always picked out. I'm like, I want to work with you because if I can do a technique to you, it'll work on anybody.

Rich Bennett 5:21
Let everybody know how tall you are. See? I didn't say.

Sydney Brackins 5:25
Yes.

Rich Bennett 5:26
This say has.

Sydney Brackins 5:26
You are.

Rich Bennett 5:27
You are. How tall?

Sydney Brackins 5:28
Well, now you ruined. So I'm five two. So, you know, that's a that's a big height.

Michelle Hayes 5:34
Difference.

Sydney Brackins 5:35
And yeah. And so when he he did like, like a he thrust the knife right towards like my stomach like. And I was able to stop it. So I put both my hands down on top, his forearm, and I bent my body back so that it didn't go past my arms.

Michelle Hayes 5:52
But

Sydney Brackins 5:52
But

Michelle Hayes 5:52
then.

Sydney Brackins 5:52
then I just and this is what an it is meant to do. I just felt.

Michelle Hayes 5:57
We.

Sydney Brackins 5:58
Because at that point I was overwhelmed with his size. And after I stopped it, I was just like, I don't know what to do from here, except except strike. And obviously, like, we work on striking a ton, but I don't want to strike someone where either of us don't have any gear on and I don't want to inflict. And neither would he or anyone else. So I was trying to think, you know, in a split second, what can I do that doesn't involve striking?

Rich Bennett 6:28
Right.

Sydney Brackins 6:28
But this is a very large individual. So he recognized my hesitation and then just continued to, I think. 37 times. So, so happy. At the end of the.

Michelle Hayes 6:41
It's.

Sydney Brackins 6:43
City is. The only way you can fail them is if you have a negative mental response. And that means you shut down your view.

Michelle Hayes 6:53
Used to continue.

Sydney Brackins 6:54
But as long as you keep fighting, we see that as a pass because.

Rich Bennett 6:58
Don't give up.

Sydney Brackins 6:59
Exactly. Don't give up. And I didn't. So after he stabbed me, like, 35. Sensei said, Okay, Adam, you're good. You can go back. And then everyone else continued the drill, right? So it was so I was fighting in the afterlife after that.

But, you know, it was. It was a good experience as I was just one of the many things that led up to my black belt test. But get.

Michelle Hayes 7:23
The actual.

Sydney Brackins 7:24
Test. I went to Florida to do my test and.

Rich Bennett 7:29
Huh?

Sydney Brackins 7:30
So Japan, I didn't I didn't do my first degree task. Japan, I did my third. No, my second. My. Retest.

Rich Bennett 7:39
So why aren't all the tests done at Empire Dojo?

Sydney Brackins 7:43
That's a great question. So our lineage of of Japanese jujitsu and NPO, when you are getting Don ranks so Don. Your black belt degrees. That's the Japanese term for it. It is. What's the term I want to use?

It's a part of the culture that when you test for a dawn rank, that is quite special. And so you want to do that in front of the head of whoever is running your organisation, which quite often means they are not located in the same state

Rich Bennett 8:20
Right.

Sydney Brackins 8:20
as you were the same country. So at that time our teacher was located in Florida. So that's why I went down there to test for

Rich Bennett 8:27
Okay.

Sydney Brackins 8:27
my black belt. And that was that was a grueling test. I remember on the flight there and the nights leading up, I had flashcards and I was studying like crazy because not only is it about, you know, performing technique, but

Rich Bennett 8:42
Mm hmm.

Sydney Brackins 8:42
you have to know all the Japanese of every technique. You have to know not just your role, but what's

Michelle Hayes 8:46
What's

Sydney Brackins 8:47
the

Michelle Hayes 8:47
the

Sydney Brackins 8:47
role

Michelle Hayes 8:47
role

Sydney Brackins 8:47
of

Michelle Hayes 8:47
of

Sydney Brackins 8:47
your

Michelle Hayes 8:47
your

Sydney Brackins 8:47
attacker? What are they

Michelle Hayes 8:48
doing

Sydney Brackins 8:48
doing

Michelle Hayes 8:48
to

Sydney Brackins 8:48
to you,

Michelle Hayes 8:48
you

Sydney Brackins 8:48
to

Michelle Hayes 8:48
doing

Sydney Brackins 8:49
insight

Michelle Hayes 8:49
something?

Sydney Brackins 8:49
what it is you need to do to them? And so I was studying like crazy. I knew all the technique. Front like the back of my hand, but just like the city. I got the first technique. I got out of the way. Second technique. I just froze. And it's not because my partner did anything to me. It was just my. I totally my mind went blank, like I knew nothing.

Rich Bennett 9:14
Nerves.

Sydney Brackins 9:14
Yeah, exactly. It was.

Michelle Hayes 9:15
It was nerves.

Sydney Brackins 9:16
It was a huge amount of nerves. And so I just stood there and I started getting emotional because I'm like, No, I know. And now I'm embarrassing myself because, you know, everyone's looking at me, and now they're.

Michelle Hayes 9:27
They're going to think. I don't know.

Sydney Brackins 9:27
No anything. And Sensei Lewis came over to me and to, like, put his arm around my shoulder and, you know, you would hope that this was kind of like a movie scene moment where the wise old sensei gives you some magical. No, he went. Stop your crying. You're embarrassing me.

Rich Bennett 9:47
The

Sydney Brackins 9:47
You

Rich Bennett 9:47
hope.

Sydney Brackins 9:47
go back there.

Michelle Hayes 9:50
I mean,

Sydney Brackins 9:50
And so he died. So I sucked it up. And then it worked, though, because then I started remembering my techniques. And then after. After that brief moment of just freeze, I

Michelle Hayes 10:02

Sydney Brackins 10:03
got through my whole test. My whole test was a total of 36 techniques. So after that, it was boom, boom, boom. But it's funny because one of the reasons why I froze in that instance was my partner was someone I never

Michelle Hayes 10:16
never

Sydney Brackins 10:17
worked

Michelle Hayes 10:17
worked

Sydney Brackins 10:17
with before. And it was a it was a it was a

Michelle Hayes 10:19
with

Sydney Brackins 10:19
man that lived in Florida that trained with my

Michelle Hayes 10:21
my

Sydney Brackins 10:21
teacher

Michelle Hayes 10:21
teachers.

Sydney Brackins 10:21
regularly. So his name was Noel. And so I had never worked with Noel before. And so I was like, part of that was like, I don't know how this. Moves at. Fighting style.

Rich Bennett 10:34
Right.

Sydney Brackins 10:34
I don't know how aggressive or how you know they are. So it was part of all those unknowns put together. I just blanked. And the the stress of the situation, like the weight of the world being on your shoulders in that moment.

Yeah. And so I.

Rich Bennett 10:52
I mean, you have overcome.

Michelle Hayes 10:54
Come that now

Rich Bennett 10:55
All right. Because let's see if it's something

Michelle Hayes 10:57
then.

Rich Bennett 10:57
in real life.

Sydney Brackins 10:59
Oh, yes.

Rich Bennett 11:00
They don't want to freeze.

Sydney Brackins 11:01
No. Yeah. So I. So at that time I got my first degree black belt, and now I'm a fourth degree and I got my fourth degree in Japan. And so.

Michelle Hayes 11:11
So cool.

Sydney Brackins 11:13
Yeah, it was an awesome experience and it was actually, I would say, the hardest test in the sense of not the techniques to be performed, but it was there. These testings are held during events called Tai Chi's Tai Chi as well, like giant seminars. There's people

Michelle Hayes 11:31
People

Sydney Brackins 11:31
from all over the world that come to these. So in Japan we have people from Australia,

Michelle Hayes 11:37
really

Sydney Brackins 11:37
from

Michelle Hayes 11:38
think

Sydney Brackins 11:38
people

Michelle Hayes 11:38
people.

Sydney Brackins 11:38
from England, people from.

Canada like any place you

Michelle Hayes 11:44
You

Sydney Brackins 11:44
could.

Michelle Hayes 11:44
can imagine.

Sydney Brackins 11:45
And all these people come together as one location to test and rank up because they all fall under the same organization.

Rich Bennett 11:52
It's all Japanese sensei's that her teaching is.

Sydney Brackins 11:55
Yes.

Rich Bennett 11:56
Are they speaking in Japanese?

Sydney Brackins 11:58
As

Michelle Hayes 11:58
It's

Sydney Brackins 11:58
a.

Michelle Hayes 11:58
a fantastic.

Sydney Brackins 11:59
Question. And that's one of the really cool aspects of what we do. Even though we were training, so my partner for my fourth degree test was from Spain.

Rich Bennett 12:08
Oh, wow.

Sydney Brackins 12:09
And so his English is very broken. And but because we all speak Japanese, we have a common language where we can understand

Michelle Hayes 12:17
Cool.

Sydney Brackins 12:17
each. Even though it's not our nature.

Michelle Hayes 12:18
Languages. So it's.

Sydney Brackins 12:21
Really neat.

Rich Bennett 12:22
Okay.

Michelle Hayes 12:23
Okay.

Rich Bennett 12:26
When was it that you started learning Japanese then?

Sydney Brackins 12:29
When I first started training like.

Rich Bennett 12:31
So that's all part of Empire Dojo. Really?

Sydney Brackins 12:35
Yeah. Everything's in Japanese. Yeah. So.

Rich Bennett 12:38
That is awesome,

Sydney Brackins 12:38
At a very beginning, like obviously we teach ages three and up.

Rich Bennett 12:42
right?

Sydney Brackins 12:42
So for the younger kids, they don't start learning Japanese right out of the gate because we want them at a younger age to just understand the movements and the. Actions, the fundamentals. But as they stick around, that's when we start throwing the Japanese at them because we know one there. They like martial arts in their. Enough to start learning a little more. But now they're getting a little older and can understand the meaning behind the words.

But wolves will do little things very early on, like counting in Japanese for repetitions or the names of certain positions. So like when we want all the kids to get ready for class, we go into like an attention position, right? So backs really tall arms and legs together into the side.

Rich Bennett 13:29
Like military.

Sydney Brackins 13:30
Exactly like.

Michelle Hayes 13:32
And so we call that.

Sydney Brackins 13:33
That she's on and

Rich Bennett 13:36
In.

Sydney Brackins 13:36
she's an.

Rich Bennett 13:37
Oh, she said.

Sydney Brackins 13:38
She then? Yeah.

Michelle Hayes 13:39
Rich.

Rich Bennett 13:42
What?

Sydney Brackins 13:44
I suggest the rest of the podcast. We should try to teach your Japanese to be funny.

Rich Bennett 13:48
You know.

Michelle Hayes 13:49
So I don't know much. But my son and my husband are both learning.

Sydney Brackins 13:54
Oh, that's

Michelle Hayes 13:54
That's

Sydney Brackins 13:54
cool.

Michelle Hayes 13:55
why we like to travel. That's our thing as a family is we love.

Sydney Brackins 13:59
Have you been to Japan?

Michelle Hayes 13:59
We haven't. But for his 16th birthday, we are taking my son and we've got three years. So we're like, How much Japanese can we learn in three years?

Sydney Brackins 14:11
So.

Rich Bennett 14:11
You'd be surprised.

Michelle Hayes 14:12
Oh, yeah. It was already, like, slowly getting conversational.

Sydney Brackins 14:16
Yeah.

Michelle Hayes 14:16
It's.

Sydney Brackins 14:16
So the good thing is if you stick around the the popular areas.

Michelle Hayes 14:22
For example.

Sydney Brackins 14:23
You really can get by with no job.

Michelle Hayes 14:26
Japanese.

Rich Bennett 14:28
Yeah.

Sydney Brackins 14:29
Scared you. Like I would definitely learn because the Japanese culture is it? Yes.

Rich Bennett 14:34
Beautiful.

Sydney Brackins 14:35
It is. I agree. And.

Michelle Hayes 14:37
When they.

Sydney Brackins 14:40
Effort to appreciate their culture.

Michelle Hayes 14:42
They.

Sydney Brackins 14:42
They they are so appreciative of that.

And so but quite often when you're going into like a place where there are service, where.

Michelle Hayes 14:52
Workers.

Sydney Brackins 14:55
If you try to speak Japanese, they obviously can see

Michelle Hayes 14:58
You.

Sydney Brackins 14:59
you. American or foreign. They'll out of kindness

Michelle Hayes 15:03
This.

Sydney Brackins 15:03
respond not in Japanese lower.

Michelle Hayes 15:05
Respond in English. Okay.

Sydney Brackins 15:07
Because they want to respect the language barrier. And so if you stick around the really populated areas, there's pretty much English signage where you start to. Japanese is when you go outside of Tokyo and you go to the

Rich Bennett 15:22
And

Sydney Brackins 15:22
the.

Rich Bennett 15:22
all.

Sydney Brackins 15:22
Yes. That they're like,

Michelle Hayes 15:24
No deal. I'm only going for part of the trip. I'm not going for the

Sydney Brackins 15:27
Oh.

Michelle Hayes 15:27
whole thing. It just. It doesn't sound super fun for me to travel by. Carryon in a capsule train. That's what the guys want to do. They want to do that and they will love it.

Sydney Brackins 15:42
They don't.

Michelle Hayes 15:42
Stay and.

Sydney Brackins 15:43
Anywhere.

Michelle Hayes 15:44
They just want to do like capsule hotels and little like.

Rich Bennett 15:47
Oh, no, no.

Sydney Brackins 15:48
Oh, those. Okay, I know.

Michelle Hayes 15:49
Four little things and like, you know, we'll sleep where we want to sleep, you know, as long.

Sydney Brackins 15:54
Nomads.

Michelle Hayes 15:55
Yeah and totally on brand for them they they do that cool I don't think that sounds like a ton of fun to stay that way and travel that way. So I'll be joining them probably halfway through.

Sydney Brackins 16:07
And that's fair enough, right? Everyone's got a travel.

Michelle Hayes 16:10
Plus, they have their own little relationship there. So they can have that and mom will come for that that little less out there part.

Sydney Brackins 16:20
And I'll I'll share this with

Michelle Hayes 16:21
Yes.

Sydney Brackins 16:21
you as well

Michelle Hayes 16:22
What

Sydney Brackins 16:22
to help with your decision. So one of the areas we went to that's very, very, very much like countryside

Michelle Hayes 16:29
country?

Sydney Brackins 16:30
is was the mountains of Takahashi and.

Rich Bennett 16:33
Oh, ho ho, ho, ho!

Sydney Brackins 16:34
To.

Michelle Hayes 16:35
I.

Sydney Brackins 16:35
I wish we spent more time there. It is so gorgeous. I'm.

Woods and why we went there was because there's a ninja museum.

Michelle Hayes 16:46
Oh, my God.

Sydney Brackins 16:47
Yeah, it was awesome. Yeah. So cool. So it's basically TikTok. She's one of the areas where Nimo originated from,

Michelle Hayes 16:54
So.

Sydney Brackins 16:54
so there's

Rich Bennett 16:54
Okay.

Sydney Brackins 16:55
a lot. To Gadkari RU.

Michelle Hayes 16:58
And

Sydney Brackins 16:58
So

Michelle Hayes 16:58
so.

Sydney Brackins 16:59
that's like the area it's started. And so they have a museum where it's like all the pictures. Rap like, not rap because I should

Michelle Hayes 17:08
I should

Sydney Brackins 17:08
say.

Michelle Hayes 17:08
say, like every.

Sydney Brackins 17:09
From hundreds of years ago displayed. Armor. It's awesome. But then another site or attraction they have there is a it's called a Ninja Trek house and it's exactly what it sounds like. You go into this house and your whole objective is to get out of the house.

Michelle Hayes 17:26
It is part.

Sydney Brackins 17:27
So like, there's there's rooms where you walk in and it looks like the floors are like not quite level, but then you start walking on it and it's actually a 60 degree sign and

Michelle Hayes 17:40
And

Sydney Brackins 17:40
you're

Michelle Hayes 17:40
you're like,

Sydney Brackins 17:40
like.

Michelle Hayes 17:41
Oh,

Sydney Brackins 17:41
That

Michelle Hayes 17:41
my God.

Sydney Brackins 17:42
and. Trap doors and, you know, just smoke and mirrors everywhere. And so it's in that's all real life.

Michelle Hayes 17:50
It's.

Sydney Brackins 17:50
You know what they utilized in order to either prevent infiltration into a home or to utilize different

Michelle Hayes 17:59
Right.

Sydney Brackins 17:59
methods of.

Michelle Hayes 18:00
Right.

Sydney Brackins 18:01
But anyway, the.

Michelle Hayes 18:03
Yeah, that sounds great.

Sydney Brackins 18:04
Is that we get there and the car ride was very long. So luckily we were traveling with.

Michelle Hayes 18:10
National.

Sydney Brackins 18:10
No license. So we just rented a.

Michelle Hayes 18:12
And

Sydney Brackins 18:12
They drove

Michelle Hayes 18:12
they.

Sydney Brackins 18:12
us and they we get their.

Michelle Hayes 18:16
I'm like, I really have to.

Sydney Brackins 18:18
I see the bathrooms.

Michelle Hayes 18:20
In the.

Sydney Brackins 18:21
There. I look.

Michelle Hayes 18:23
Yes.

Sydney Brackins 18:24
And it's just

Michelle Hayes 18:25
See?

Sydney Brackins 18:25
hole in the floor. And I'm like, I don't have to get. Or maybe more

Rich Bennett 18:29
For

Sydney Brackins 18:29
so.

Rich Bennett 18:29
both.

Sydney Brackins 18:30
Yeah.

Michelle Hayes 18:31
I know. I've seen that, and I can't wait.

Sydney Brackins 18:33
Yes.

Michelle Hayes 18:34
I think it's just a C, something like that for me. I'd be like, All right, let's go.

Rich Bennett 18:38
The first of.

Sydney Brackins 18:39
Okay, so you're. You're stronger than I am.

Michelle Hayes 18:41
I'd be like, All right, this is this is how they do. Cool. Let's, you know.

Rich Bennett 18:45
That's why you that's why they're so comfortable. A lot of times alone if you saw. But we.

Michelle Hayes 18:50
Drive in.

Rich Bennett 18:52
And you see all these people outside working with they're on a. They're just squatting down.

Michelle Hayes 18:55
Oh, yeah.

Rich Bennett 18:56
They're just because they're so comfortable doing that. I mean, they're not going to the bathroom then.

Michelle Hayes 19:01
No, but it's a

Sydney Brackins 19:02
You're.

Michelle Hayes 19:02
comfortable position for them.

Sydney Brackins 19:03
Yeah.

Michelle Hayes 19:04
Yeah. Yeah.

Sydney Brackins 19:05
But so it's funny, just the comparison and this is one of the reasons why I love Japan, is that you have that like quote unquote, the.

Michelle Hayes 19:13
Plastics.

Sydney Brackins 19:14
But then on the complete

Michelle Hayes 19:15
The

Sydney Brackins 19:16
opposite

Michelle Hayes 19:16
opposite

Sydney Brackins 19:16
side

Michelle Hayes 19:16
side

Sydney Brackins 19:16
of

Michelle Hayes 19:16
of

Sydney Brackins 19:16
the.

Michelle Hayes 19:16
the spectrum you have.

Sydney Brackins 19:18
Very future.

Michelle Hayes 19:21
Technology like toilets.

Sydney Brackins 19:23
In Tokyo are.

Michelle Hayes 19:25
Knew everything.

Sydney Brackins 19:27
The seat lid like heats up. You can play music.

Michelle Hayes 19:30
Don't call.

Sydney Brackins 19:31
Oh, it's insane. I have pictures of all. So it's just. It's crazy because.

Rich Bennett 19:37
Why is our music coming after Ash?

Sydney Brackins 19:38
Yeah.

Rich Bennett 19:38
I mean.

Sydney Brackins 19:39
Yeah. Yeah. You.

It has a bidet on it and you can adjust the angle of the bidet like

Michelle Hayes 19:45
It's

Sydney Brackins 19:45
it's

Michelle Hayes 19:45
just.

Sydney Brackins 19:45
just wild,

Michelle Hayes 19:46
Why?

Sydney Brackins 19:46
so.

Rich Bennett 19:47
Careful of these things.

Michelle Hayes 19:48
My my guys can't

Sydney Brackins 19:49
Yes.

Michelle Hayes 19:49
hear this episode. They're going to try to live there. They ever since

Rich Bennett 19:53

Michelle Hayes 19:53

Rich Bennett 19:53
would

Michelle Hayes 19:53
forget

Rich Bennett 19:53
love.

Michelle Hayes 19:54
where we were. But they love a good.

Sydney Brackins 19:59
Who doesn't?

Rich Bennett 20:01
Me. Oh, look, the first.

Sydney Brackins 20:03
I don't think you're angling it correctly, Rich.

Michelle Hayes 20:06
I know they're great, except for when you go to clean them. We had someone we used to have when

both out of the home. We had someone come in and, you know, just tidy up the house, dust everything and all of that while she was cleaning the bathroom and she tried to clean the bidet and she got into our popcorn ceiling, like out of the bathroom, into the hall. it was a funny thing.

Rich Bennett 20:34
My wife and I went.

Michelle Hayes 20:36
John.

Rich Bennett 20:37
For our anniversary.

Michelle Hayes 20:37
What do?

Rich Bennett 20:40
In Boonsboro.

Michelle Hayes 20:43
Yeah.

Rich Bennett 20:45
The bidet on it. I'm. Try to one day. I know.

Michelle Hayes 20:49
Yes. That's when you have your.

Sydney Brackins 20:52
I can just imagine

Michelle Hayes 20:53
Google.

Rich Bennett 20:53
I hate the.

Michelle Hayes 20:56
I.

Rich Bennett 20:57
I did

Michelle Hayes 20:57
You realize it's continuous?

Rich Bennett 20:59
tell you

Michelle Hayes 21:01
Oh, yeah.

Rich Bennett 21:01
that.

Michelle Hayes 21:02
Oh, my

Rich Bennett 21:02
Like

Michelle Hayes 21:03
God.

Rich Bennett 21:03
what

Michelle Hayes 21:03
What

Rich Bennett 21:03
the.

Michelle Hayes 21:03
the hell?

Rich Bennett 21:04
It was like, freakin. It hurt

Michelle Hayes 21:09
Not

Rich Bennett 21:09
not

Michelle Hayes 21:10
to

Rich Bennett 21:10
to say

Michelle Hayes 21:10
say anything,

Rich Bennett 21:11
it,

Michelle Hayes 21:11
but

Rich Bennett 21:11
but it.

Michelle Hayes 21:11
I guess.

Rich Bennett 21:13
And half me I could.

On screen. Oh, he got too was like,

Michelle Hayes 21:21
Holy cow.

Rich Bennett 21:21
Oh.

Sydney Brackins 21:22
That's something of a comedy right there.

Rich Bennett 21:24
Oh, man.

Michelle Hayes 21:25
So you didn't have it aimed, right? That's not what it's supposed to.

Sydney Brackins 21:28
That was a little

Rich Bennett 21:28
One.

Sydney Brackins 21:29
too down.

Rich Bennett 21:31
I think it was two. I think that one had like.

Michelle Hayes 21:35
A front wash and.

Rich Bennett 21:36
Yeah. I don't know.

Michelle Hayes 21:37
Some have three.

Rich Bennett 21:38
Yeah. I hit that white.

Michelle Hayes 21:39
Some of the really nice ones have like three plus they're.

Rich Bennett 21:43
Which is the third one for.

Michelle Hayes 21:44
Feminine.

Rich Bennett 21:46
Oh. Okay.

Michelle Hayes 21:47
Do you want me to go into detail? Go ahead.

Rich Bennett 21:49
No.

Michelle Hayes 21:51
You react just.

Rich Bennett 21:51
I just. You know, I just.

Michelle Hayes 21:53
I know. Maybe you hit that one.

Rich Bennett 21:56
I was singing soprano.

Michelle Hayes 21:58
Oh, my God. I can't.

Sydney Brackins 21:59
Imagine your way. Your wife.

Rich Bennett 22:02
She was in the room live.

Sydney Brackins 22:04
I bet.

Michelle Hayes 22:05
I mean, I would be, too.

Sydney Brackins 22:06
I mean to.

Michelle Hayes 22:07
Yeah.

Rich Bennett 22:08
They have. What? Jobs like you know the big call for tubs

Michelle Hayes 22:12
But.

Rich Bennett 22:12
but.

I was the standard, but I could not sit here because my ass could slide down.

Michelle Hayes 22:21
That's why you have to sit there in the movies with

Rich Bennett 22:23

Michelle Hayes 22:23
your arms

Rich Bennett 22:23
tried

Michelle Hayes 22:23
around.

Rich Bennett 22:24
that. I did. Which is where? Where do I put my head?

Michelle Hayes 22:31
Things are so. The tops, not the days.

Sydney Brackins 22:35
Yes. So.

Michelle Hayes 22:37
But the real ones say if they do, there's something wrong with.

Sydney Brackins 22:44
Go to the bathroom and it comes back up at you.

Michelle Hayes 22:47
They feature.

Sydney Brackins 22:49
Yeah. I didn't, I didn't use.

Michelle Hayes 22:52
But.

Sydney Brackins 22:52
Japan is an awesome place. I personally wouldn't want to live there unless I was retired because the work life. Japan. It's prioritizing your responsibility and. I followed several. Japanese account. Tick tock and they show like basically a day in.

Michelle Hayes 23:12
Yes, they'll get.

Sydney Brackins 23:13
Get up at like 6 a.m. and they get home at 10 p.m.. That is their life. And. A little example of like how serious they are about work, you

Michelle Hayes 23:23
You

Sydney Brackins 23:23
know,

Michelle Hayes 23:23
know, in

Sydney Brackins 23:23
in America.

Michelle Hayes 23:23
America, I hear

Sydney Brackins 23:24
2 minutes late to work. Your

Michelle Hayes 23:26
you

Sydney Brackins 23:26
boss might might be

Michelle Hayes 23:27
like.

Sydney Brackins 23:27
like, Yo, hey, don't do that again. That's kind of the extent of it. If you show up one minute late to your shift in Japan, you are expected to buy a gift for everyone in the office as an apology. And then you will. Your pay for that whole day. It's. It's wild. Yeah. So. Some.

Michelle Hayes 23:48
That's why they just.

Sydney Brackins 23:51
It's because. Pretty much the whole.

Rich Bennett 23:54
Non stop.

Sydney Brackins 23:55
Yeah.

Michelle Hayes 23:55
I follow one Who's.

Stop, teach. got, like, red hair. I don't remember her name, but I think.

Sydney Brackins 24:05
Probably sooner at some point.

Michelle Hayes 24:07
So different because.

And you have gift of being able to rent the apartment, apartment, then the first month's rent. And it's like, how?

Sydney Brackins 24:25
Yes.

Michelle Hayes 24:28
Culture. And while it sounds super extreme to us because we don't function that way here in the U.S., I think we could learn something, definitely. Not 100%

Sydney Brackins 24:40
Because

Michelle Hayes 24:40
because.

Sydney Brackins 24:40
I think it's very idealistic. But I think, you know,

Michelle Hayes 24:45
Financial reasons. Oh, yes.

Sydney Brackins 24:47
that's. And I think.

Michelle Hayes 24:49
It's beautiful. Hi.

Sydney Brackins 24:52
Joe.

Rich Bennett 24:52
Four four.

Michelle Hayes 24:54
Let me

Rich Bennett 24:54
Here.

Michelle Hayes 24:54
hear

Rich Bennett 24:54
So we.

Michelle Hayes 24:56
some crunching.

Would you? That's you. Stop blaming the dog. You want your round?

Sydney Brackins 25:07
She was talking.

Michelle Hayes 25:10
Yes, He's my my fuzzy little nephew.

Rich Bennett 25:12
All right, sir.

Michelle Hayes 25:14
If you actually.

Rich Bennett 25:14
You've been to Japan, then?

Sydney Brackins 25:15
Twice.

Michelle Hayes 25:16
Just enjoy

my.

Sydney Brackins 25:19
Going back.

Rich Bennett 25:20
I said, Wendy, Oh, God, I'm going to get it wrong.

Michelle Hayes 25:23
When did you start?

Rich Bennett 25:24
Start learning the

nuts Shiatsu.

Michelle Hayes 25:29
That's a dog.

Rich Bennett 25:31
Now while was Penn's dog. She's a she's so.

Michelle Hayes 25:36
So.

Rich Bennett 25:38
Showdown was.

Michelle Hayes 25:40
I think.

Rich Bennett 25:41
Photo.

Sydney Brackins 25:42
When did I start learning that?

Rich Bennett 25:43
Yeah.

Sydney Brackins 25:46
That's a good question. I think the first time I ever got exposure to it was before I got my black belt and it was just like I saw something online. But then the official time got involved.

Michelle Hayes 26:00
It's my

Sydney Brackins 26:00
First

Michelle Hayes 26:00
first.

Sydney Brackins 26:01
trip to. You're referring to.

Michelle Hayes 26:03
To.

Sydney Brackins 26:04
It was really cool story and kind of a example of the culture there. So. Well, we left our Airbnb and this was like, say, noon ish, and we're just walking around the town we're in. And this was when we were staying in Kyoto, so not Tokyo, but Kyoto. It is an older town. And so. Just walking around. There's like, we were staying. Castle and.

Michelle Hayes 26:30
We see this going in.

Sydney Brackins 26:32
Beautiful. It looks like a like a martial arts school. Like it. mean, Florida.

Michelle Hayes 26:36
It's.

Sydney Brackins 26:37
Open face. So you can see I.

Michelle Hayes 26:38
Everything is.

Sydney Brackins 26:39
Has the traditional. Echo drums needs.

Michelle Hayes 26:42
It's like we look at it and.

Sydney Brackins 26:45
And we see shoto classes and. We should see if we could do one.

Michelle Hayes 26:49
Right.

Sydney Brackins 26:50
And we couldn't under. It was Japanese.

Michelle Hayes 26:54
There's.

Sydney Brackins 26:55
So we went up to see if there's anyone there and there was a man inside.

I like a welcome booth and. You went to try. About the show, Douglas. Come to find out he spoke zero in. So we are really struggling with that language.

Michelle Hayes 27:15
We

Sydney Brackins 27:15
We

Michelle Hayes 27:15
can

Sydney Brackins 27:15
can.

Michelle Hayes 27:15
see, you know,

Sydney Brackins 27:17
We understand what Shoto

Michelle Hayes 27:17
showed up.

Sydney Brackins 27:18
is and are very big. Lingo,

Michelle Hayes 27:21
But

Sydney Brackins 27:22
but

Michelle Hayes 27:22
we

Sydney Brackins 27:22
we couldn't

Michelle Hayes 27:22
could.

Sydney Brackins 27:23
get him to understand. Like we were asking to see if back

Michelle Hayes 27:27
So it's

Sydney Brackins 27:29
like

Michelle Hayes 27:29
like

Sydney Brackins 27:30
having.

Michelle Hayes 27:30
having.

Sydney Brackins 27:32
This woman comes out, an older woman, and she

Michelle Hayes 27:37
Looks

Sydney Brackins 27:37
looks

Michelle Hayes 27:38
at

Sydney Brackins 27:38
at

Michelle Hayes 27:38
him

Sydney Brackins 27:38
him.

Michelle Hayes 27:39
for.

Sydney Brackins 27:40
And then there was an understanding of what we were. She starts like she's like, Come on,

Michelle Hayes 27:45

Sydney Brackins 27:46
just

Michelle Hayes 27:46
just

Sydney Brackins 27:46
on.

Michelle Hayes 27:46
wrote

Rich Bennett 27:46
Right.

Michelle Hayes 27:47
this.

Sydney Brackins 27:48
Facility in turn. Come to find out. Afterwards we realised it was a church and she sat. We like the only people there. And it was just

Michelle Hayes 28:00
Turn

Sydney Brackins 28:00
her in that

Michelle Hayes 28:00
that

Sydney Brackins 28:00
man.

Michelle Hayes 28:00
man.

Sydney Brackins 28:01
The man stayed at the welcome booth. So she sat us down, started pulling out all.

Michelle Hayes 28:04
Supplies.

Sydney Brackins 28:05
And taught us for an hour. And at the end we're like.

Rich Bennett 28:08
Just you to.

Sydney Brackins 28:09
Just us.

Rich Bennett 28:10
How lucky were you?

Sydney Brackins 28:11
And Yeah and so we obviously

Michelle Hayes 28:13
Okay.

Sydney Brackins 28:14
you

Michelle Hayes 28:14
You

Sydney Brackins 28:14
know

Michelle Hayes 28:14
know

Sydney Brackins 28:14
how.

Michelle Hayes 28:14
how much

Sydney Brackins 28:15
And

Michelle Hayes 28:15
she

Sydney Brackins 28:15
she

Michelle Hayes 28:15
refused.

Sydney Brackins 28:15
refused to take any.

Rich Bennett 28:18
I'll.

Michelle Hayes 28:19
And it was just it was awesome. So

Sydney Brackins 28:20
So

Michelle Hayes 28:20
one

Sydney Brackins 28:20
one of

Michelle Hayes 28:21
of.

Sydney Brackins 28:21
my one of my pictures, I had a profile picture for a while.

Michelle Hayes 28:27
Was.

Sydney Brackins 28:28
You know, on the floor. And she's standing. You like guiding my hand? Because.

Michelle Hayes 28:33
When you.

Sydney Brackins 28:34
You write showed.

When you were.

Michelle Hayes 28:38
It has to be.

Sydney Brackins 28:40
Straight up and down. So it takes time to realize, okay.

Rich Bennett 28:44
It's an art.

Sydney Brackins 28:45
Yeah. Y you're holding the pantry up and down. How do you properly apply pressure so you have thinner lines or thicker lines? When do you lift? When do you push? And, you know, it's it's very difficult. So she was like literally holding our hands as we were going through this. And

Michelle Hayes 29:00
it

Sydney Brackins 29:00
it

Michelle Hayes 29:00
was

Sydney Brackins 29:00
was

Michelle Hayes 29:00
just.

Sydney Brackins 29:00
just such an amazing.

Michelle Hayes 29:02
Because.

Sydney Brackins 29:03
You know, we're

Michelle Hayes 29:04
Two incompetent

Sydney Brackins 29:05
competent for.

Michelle Hayes 29:06
foreigners

Sydney Brackins 29:06
She took

Michelle Hayes 29:07
took

Sydney Brackins 29:07
us

Michelle Hayes 29:07
us

Sydney Brackins 29:07
in

Michelle Hayes 29:07
in

Sydney Brackins 29:07
and

Michelle Hayes 29:08
and.

Sydney Brackins 29:08
just did an hour lesson with us out of the kindness of her heart. And I thought that was so cool. And I'll never forget that

Michelle Hayes 29:16
The podcast.

Sydney Brackins 29:17
podcast.

Rich Bennett 29:22
You actually do that now?

Sydney Brackins 29:23
I do.

Rich Bennett 29:24
No.

Sydney Brackins 29:24
I actually do it a lot in my free time. And I have a couple students that will do private lessons with me that want to also. Teach them. So I have, you know, entire set I.

Michelle Hayes 29:41
I have

Sydney Brackins 29:42
Of both.

Michelle Hayes 29:43
to be. And

Sydney Brackins 29:44
Like the easy squeeze

Michelle Hayes 29:46
by.

Sydney Brackins 29:46
bottles. The squeeze bottles are perfect for beginners because you just pour it.

Rich Bennett 29:50
Right.

Sydney Brackins 29:51
And you have it the traditional.

Michelle Hayes 29:52
They're actually sticks.

Sydney Brackins 29:53
Solid sticks and you have put

Michelle Hayes 29:57

Sydney Brackins 29:57

Michelle Hayes 29:57
little

Sydney Brackins 29:57
little

Michelle Hayes 29:57
water

Sydney Brackins 29:57
water

Michelle Hayes 29:57
on

Sydney Brackins 29:57
on

Michelle Hayes 29:57
the

Sydney Brackins 29:57
the.

Michelle Hayes 29:58
side.

Sydney Brackins 29:58
The stick into the stone until it creates the.

Michelle Hayes 30:02
And.

Sydney Brackins 30:02
It's.

Amazon.

Rich Bennett 30:09
You find that?

Michelle Hayes 30:10
You can find so much.

Sydney Brackins 30:12
Yeah, but, I mean, I ordered mine through a Japanese.

Michelle Hayes 30:16
His website because I want to make sure that.

Sydney Brackins 30:17
That it was.

Michelle Hayes 30:19
It's going to be

Sydney Brackins 30:19
Be like

Michelle Hayes 30:20
like.

Sydney Brackins 30:20
cheap or. To make sure it was authentic.

Rich Bennett 30:23
So how? Before you start teaching them that.

Sydney Brackins 30:27
Honestly. Like if. A four year old said, Hey, my child wants to do this. I'd totally do it with them because I. I think when people express a desire to learn, who am I to stand in their way? And that goes with almost anything. There's some restrictions. Obviously. I'm not going to give a four year old a knife and be. Let's learn knife defense like.

Michelle Hayes 30:50
I saw.

Sydney Brackins 30:51
Sword. Let's cut some mats. Yeah.

Michelle Hayes 30:54
So.

Sydney Brackins 30:56
And when it comes to safety. But in terms of students learning, I like to I like to share. College. I don't hold anything back. And this is something. Say Lewis. He

Michelle Hayes 31:05
Yeah,

Sydney Brackins 31:06
yells, I'm.

Michelle Hayes 31:07
because.

Sydney Brackins 31:08
I will learn all these high level techniques in Japan. I'll come.

Michelle Hayes 31:11
And.

Sydney Brackins 31:12
Then first class back I'll be. Degree black belt technique. Let's learn it. And he's like, Sydney, you can't. So

Michelle Hayes 31:19
So

I was just so excited

Sydney Brackins 31:26
I learned.

Michelle Hayes 31:27
to hear it. But also.

Rich Bennett 31:30
With.

Shadow just amazes me. Have you guys thought about because you only teach it to the students, right? The people that go there.

Sydney Brackins 31:42
So we did one open house event where I offered it to the.

Rich Bennett 31:45
Oh, okay. I was. Is your bad.

Sydney Brackins 31:51
Good luck, Hannah. It and. But I haven't done it since because there just isn't enough interest and not not enough familiarity with what it is for people to say, oh, I want to do. So I would totally like if I got people interested, I would totally hold a class and.

Rich Bennett 32:09
A lot to learn.

Sydney Brackins 32:12
Oh,

Michelle Hayes 32:12
What

Sydney Brackins 32:12
what

Michelle Hayes 32:12
do

Sydney Brackins 32:12
do

Michelle Hayes 32:12
you.

Sydney Brackins 32:12
you do?

Michelle Hayes 32:13
Do you guys work with a marketing company? Yeah. It's like.

Sydney Brackins 32:19
We use a Facebook marketing company that runs our ads on Facebook and helps generate leads for Facebook, but they don't do like they will ties from

Michelle Hayes 32:30
From

Sydney Brackins 32:31
our

Michelle Hayes 32:31
the

Sydney Brackins 32:31
public.

Michelle Hayes 32:31
public

Sydney Brackins 32:32
This

Michelle Hayes 32:32
classroom

Sydney Brackins 32:32
class or this event. They strictly just do like martial

Michelle Hayes 32:35
martial arts

Sydney Brackins 32:36
arts class

Michelle Hayes 32:36
class.

Sydney Brackins 32:37
ads. Yeah. So like, in terms

Michelle Hayes 32:40

Sydney Brackins 32:41
I.

Michelle Hayes 32:41
the events.

Sydney Brackins 32:42
On Facebook where my social. And so, yeah, I can definitely get something

Michelle Hayes 32:47
Together.

Sydney Brackins 32:47
together

Michelle Hayes 32:47
Like

Sydney Brackins 32:47
like I have.

Michelle Hayes 32:48
two of us

Sydney Brackins 32:49
I've

Michelle Hayes 32:49
have

Sydney Brackins 32:49
created

Michelle Hayes 32:49
created

Sydney Brackins 32:49
ones

before

Michelle Hayes 32:52
four things.

Sydney Brackins 32:52
Thanksgiving and one's after Thanksgiving and I'm leading a. Muay Thai pre

Michelle Hayes 32:57
pre-Thanksgiving work out

Sydney Brackins 32:58
and

Michelle Hayes 32:58
includes

Sydney Brackins 32:58
post Thanksgiving

Michelle Hayes 32:59
Thanksgiving.

Sydney Brackins 32:59
work.

Michelle Hayes 33:01
Those are on.

Sydney Brackins 33:01
On Facebook. They're open to the public, but it's a way for people to get

Michelle Hayes 33:05
It's

Sydney Brackins 33:05
some

Michelle Hayes 33:05
an

Sydney Brackins 33:05
exercise

Michelle Hayes 33:05
exercise

Sydney Brackins 33:05
in.

Michelle Hayes 33:05
in.

Sydney Brackins 33:07
Thanksgiving and Engorged themselves during

Michelle Hayes 33:10
Is there

Sydney Brackins 33:11
things.

Michelle Hayes 33:11
anything you

Rich Bennett 33:12
Why

Michelle Hayes 33:12
want

Rich Bennett 33:12
are you looking at me when you

Michelle Hayes 33:12
to

Rich Bennett 33:13
say

Michelle Hayes 33:13
say?

Rich Bennett 33:13
that?

Sydney Brackins 33:13
I am. You know,

Rich Bennett 33:15

Sydney Brackins 33:15
just.

Rich Bennett 33:15
can't.

Sydney Brackins 33:15
General. You are the host.

Michelle Hayes 33:17
I see the house.

Sydney Brackins 33:18
Host I'm being respectful.

Rich Bennett 33:20
Uh huh. She's probably she's sitting there saying,

Michelle Hayes 33:23
She knows I'm not going to take

Rich Bennett 33:25
We

Michelle Hayes 33:25

Rich Bennett 33:25
knew.

Michelle Hayes 33:25
crash. You can see my knees have. I've had knee surgery on these.

Sydney Brackins 33:30
I've known, actually.

Michelle Hayes 33:31
I'm a walking.

Do you?

Rich Bennett 33:39
So she can teach it and.

Michelle Hayes 33:41
Once we fix my lungs,

I'm at 72% 72% of my lungs. COVID that COVID sucks. The more you have.

Rich Bennett 33:56
See Cindy can help with all of this. Sensei Sydney, the ninja therapist.

Just give you a new time.

Sydney Brackins 34:06
I. I I honestly.

Michelle Hayes 34:07
What kind of therapist? Because I could also use a shrink like that

is being a therapist.

Sydney Brackins 34:16
And I mean, I'll have give you. Just had a woman come in last night to the studio. I'm teaching the adult class. MAGA and.

Michelle Hayes 34:24
There's just one

Sydney Brackins 34:25
Like standing off to the

Michelle Hayes 34:26
side.

Sydney Brackins 34:26
side. And I'm like, Keep

Michelle Hayes 34:28
Like

Sydney Brackins 34:28
an

Michelle Hayes 34:28
even.

Sydney Brackins 34:28
eye on her. But I'm not going to leave the out because.

Rich Bennett 34:31
Mm hmm.

Michelle Hayes 34:32

Sydney Brackins 34:32

Michelle Hayes 34:32
got

Sydney Brackins 34:32
got

Michelle Hayes 34:33
the

Sydney Brackins 34:33
students

Michelle Hayes 34:33
students

Sydney Brackins 34:33
I'm

Michelle Hayes 34:33
and.

Sydney Brackins 34:33
responsible for. I and the class I go up to.

Michelle Hayes 34:38
I say, you know

Sydney Brackins 34:39
Hi. Are you here? Like, waiting for someone? She goes, No, like I'm interesting. Myself. I'm like, Oh, it's very nice to meet you. I'm Coach Sydney.

Michelle Hayes 34:47
I come to find

Sydney Brackins 34:47
Now,

Michelle Hayes 34:48
out.

Sydney Brackins 34:48
you know, she wants to train because she had she's now a widow.

Pretty awful things happened to her. So she's done some healing, some person. To get to the point where she could even walk in the door. But now she's ready to.

Michelle Hayes 35:06
You know, it's so.

Sydney Brackins 35:09
I was like, I would love to be there for you. And. At that point in time, I did have an appointment, so I said normally I would take time.

Michelle Hayes 35:16
You grew.

Sydney Brackins 35:18
And help. Figure out the best path for you.

Michelle Hayes 35:21
you.

Sydney Brackins 35:22
But tomorrow,

Michelle Hayes 35:23
Tomorrow. Can

Sydney Brackins 35:23
can we

Michelle Hayes 35:23
we do

Sydney Brackins 35:23
do

Michelle Hayes 35:24
that

Sydney Brackins 35:24
that? So.

Michelle Hayes 35:24
today?

Sydney Brackins 35:26
Her in working with her one on one.

Michelle Hayes 35:28
You.

Sydney Brackins 35:29
Make sure that.

Because. Takes a big toll on someone who's been through trauma to then have to

Michelle Hayes 35:42
Violent situations.

Sydney Brackins 35:42
situation. It can be. It can be very stressed.

Rich Bennett 35:48
Trigger.

Michelle Hayes 35:49
A graceful way

Sydney Brackins 35:51
I've had so many women in the history of the school come in with domestic

Michelle Hayes 35:56
find.

Sydney Brackins 35:56
violence or.

Michelle Hayes 35:57
Sexual abuse.

Sydney Brackins 35:58
And so I always make it a priority when I'm working with them or walk.

Michelle Hayes 36:02
I say, okay, you tell me. At this point, I.

Sydney Brackins 36:05
What? Are you okay with doing? What aren't you okay with doing? Because I've had women, you know, when I was.

Michelle Hayes 36:12
I would.

Sydney Brackins 36:12
Wouldn't ask those questions. And then we. I'd be like our guy. Jokes

Michelle Hayes 36:18
I'd be like,

Sydney Brackins 36:18
like, All

Michelle Hayes 36:18
All

Sydney Brackins 36:19
right,

Michelle Hayes 36:19
right.

Sydney Brackins 36:19
go up in. Two hand choke and.

Michelle Hayes 36:22
You just.

Sydney Brackins 36:23
The deer and headlights. Panic response or I've had people like cry. So over the years I've learned that's something I have to be super respectful

Michelle Hayes 36:32
Right, right.

Tell me what happened,

Sydney Brackins 36:37
and

Michelle Hayes 36:37
because

Sydney Brackins 36:37
because

Michelle Hayes 36:37
that's

Sydney Brackins 36:38
not

Michelle Hayes 36:38
not

Sydney Brackins 36:38
my.

Michelle Hayes 36:38
my concern. But I

Sydney Brackins 36:39
I do

Michelle Hayes 36:39
do

Sydney Brackins 36:39
want

Michelle Hayes 36:39
want you

Sydney Brackins 36:39
you to

Michelle Hayes 36:40
to.

Sydney Brackins 36:40
tell me.

Michelle Hayes 36:41
In

Sydney Brackins 36:41
In

Michelle Hayes 36:41
terms

Sydney Brackins 36:41
terms of

Michelle Hayes 36:41
of.

Sydney Brackins 36:41
an attacker. What are you okay with?

Michelle Hayes 36:45
What would you.

Sydney Brackins 36:46
Look what I'm doing to you. And so I'll have women tell me, you know, I'm really not comfortable with, you know, anything around my throat.

Honestly, I want to limit cut.

And

Michelle Hayes 37:00
And

Sydney Brackins 37:00
so

Michelle Hayes 37:00
so we

Sydney Brackins 37:00
we take

Michelle Hayes 37:00
take

Sydney Brackins 37:01
a different

Michelle Hayes 37:01
different

Sydney Brackins 37:01
approach.

Michelle Hayes 37:01
approaches to address.

Sydney Brackins 37:02
Will have them

Michelle Hayes 37:05
You learn

Sydney Brackins 37:05
learn about

Michelle Hayes 37:05
about.

Sydney Brackins 37:06
the fact.

Get into anything. Out someone.

Michelle Hayes 37:11
Resting now.

Rich Bennett 37:14
Scott, if

Michelle Hayes 37:16
For

Rich Bennett 37:16
you're

Michelle Hayes 37:16
your mental health.

Rich Bennett 37:17
talking to the. That's got to be a lot on

Michelle Hayes 37:20
You as

Rich Bennett 37:20
Well.

Michelle Hayes 37:20
well.

Rich Bennett 37:21
Here their stories at all.

Sydney Brackins 37:23
Well, I don't know.

Michelle Hayes 37:24
I you.

Sydney Brackins 37:25
During the first podcast. The reason why I got into martial arts at all is. I was, uh, out of a lot to say the word on the podcast.

Rich Bennett 37:33
You.

Sydney Brackins 37:34
Yeah. I was raped and.

Michelle Hayes 37:35
And are you sure? Yeah. Wow. Yeah, I

Sydney Brackins 37:38
I was

Michelle Hayes 37:39
was

Sydney Brackins 37:39
raped

Michelle Hayes 37:39
right.

Sydney Brackins 37:39
and I was

held. I was put in a position where someone was refusing thing or stopping So basically. had a roommate in college and she was just not a good influence. But at that time I didn't. I was

Michelle Hayes 37:59
Just

Sydney Brackins 37:59
just too

Michelle Hayes 37:59
to.

Sydney Brackins 38:00
concerned with making friends and appease. So

Michelle Hayes 38:04
She

Sydney Brackins 38:04
she was

Michelle Hayes 38:04
was like,

Sydney Brackins 38:04
like, Hey.

Michelle Hayes 38:04
Hey.

Sydney Brackins 38:06
My my best friend and I are going to go to this guy's house. Do you want to come and.

Michelle Hayes 38:10
I say that.

Sydney Brackins 38:11
So I was like, Okay. We

Michelle Hayes 38:13
You

Sydney Brackins 38:13
go

Michelle Hayes 38:13
go

Sydney Brackins 38:13
to

Michelle Hayes 38:13
to

Sydney Brackins 38:13
this

Michelle Hayes 38:13
this

Sydney Brackins 38:13
apartment

Michelle Hayes 38:13
apartment.

Sydney Brackins 38:14
complex and like, I just immediately felt. I was like, There's something not right here.

Michelle Hayes 38:19
Because

Sydney Brackins 38:20
We walk in.

Michelle Hayes 38:20
it's.

Sydney Brackins 38:21
Dark. There are no three

Michelle Hayes 38:23
You guys.

Sydney Brackins 38:23
guys. Hoodies up on account. There's like, a bong.

Michelle Hayes 38:28
Will.

Sydney Brackins 38:29
I was just like. I don't like this. But again. I

Michelle Hayes 38:32
I didn't.

Sydney Brackins 38:32
didn't say anything.

Michelle Hayes 38:34
So we're just.

Sydney Brackins 38:35
Just standing there awkwardly, like

Michelle Hayes 38:37
She's

Sydney Brackins 38:38
she's

Michelle Hayes 38:38
talking

Sydney Brackins 38:38
talking

Michelle Hayes 38:38
to

Sydney Brackins 38:38
to

Michelle Hayes 38:38
one of my guys

Sydney Brackins 38:39
for

Michelle Hayes 38:39
for

Sydney Brackins 38:40
like

Michelle Hayes 38:40
like

Sydney Brackins 38:40

Michelle Hayes 38:40

Sydney Brackins 38:40
minutes.

Michelle Hayes 38:40
minutes. Just

Sydney Brackins 38:41
minutes. My.

Michelle Hayes 38:42
my stomach was screaming at me, so.

Sydney Brackins 38:45
Said. I said, Hey, care, I like I'm I'm going to go. I don't. And I made up like I

Michelle Hayes 38:49

Sydney Brackins 38:49
really

Michelle Hayes 38:50
really

Sydney Brackins 38:50
don't.

Michelle Hayes 38:50
don't feel that.

Sydney Brackins 38:51
And she

Michelle Hayes 38:51
You

Sydney Brackins 38:51
then

Michelle Hayes 38:51
guys

Sydney Brackins 38:51
starts

Michelle Hayes 38:52
start making

Sydney Brackins 38:52
making

Michelle Hayes 38:52
a big

Sydney Brackins 38:52
deal

Michelle Hayes 38:52
deal

Sydney Brackins 38:52
about

Michelle Hayes 38:52
about like, we just

Sydney Brackins 38:53
Scott

Michelle Hayes 38:53
got

Sydney Brackins 38:54
here.

Michelle Hayes 38:54
here. So you guys.

Sydney Brackins 38:57
To like what's going on. So.

Michelle Hayes 38:59
The couch and.

Sydney Brackins 39:02
Comes up to me and says, You know what's going on? Sorry.

Michelle Hayes 39:05
Sorry. I'm not feeling

Sydney Brackins 39:06
God.

Michelle Hayes 39:06
good. And he. Yes.

Sydney Brackins 39:09
To the front door and says, You're

Michelle Hayes 39:10
You're not

Sydney Brackins 39:11
not

Michelle Hayes 39:11
leaving.

Sydney Brackins 39:11
leaving. And I was like, you know.

I'm sorry, but yes, I am.

Michelle Hayes 39:18
Right.

Sydney Brackins 39:18
Right. And

Michelle Hayes 39:19
And he.

Sydney Brackins 39:19
he. He thinks. He starts laughing. You don't get it. You're not leaving. And he

Michelle Hayes 39:26
He

Sydney Brackins 39:26
held

Michelle Hayes 39:26
held up

Sydney Brackins 39:26
up

Michelle Hayes 39:26
his

Sydney Brackins 39:26
his.

Michelle Hayes 39:26
shirt.

Sydney Brackins 39:28
And so at that point,

Michelle Hayes 39:31
You

Sydney Brackins 39:32
you know.

Michelle Hayes 39:32
know.

Sydney Brackins 39:33
Large training.

I just kind of stood there for a second and didn't know what. I didn't know what

Michelle Hayes 39:42
What

Sydney Brackins 39:42
to

Michelle Hayes 39:42
to do.

Sydney Brackins 39:42
do.

Michelle Hayes 39:42
I couldn't.

Sydney Brackins 39:43
Like

Michelle Hayes 39:43
Like, I

Sydney Brackins 39:43

Michelle Hayes 39:43
felt

Sydney Brackins 39:43
felt.

Michelle Hayes 39:43
like I wasn't.

Rich Bennett 39:45
What was your friend doing at this?

Michelle Hayes 39:46
It's up to

Sydney Brackins 39:48
I don't know. She went with

Michelle Hayes 39:48
the

Sydney Brackins 39:48
the

Michelle Hayes 39:49
guys

Sydney Brackins 39:49
guy somewhere.

Michelle Hayes 39:49
on.

Sydney Brackins 39:51
Luckily for me, this was like the entrance to the house was like.

The doors here. There was a bathroom.

Michelle Hayes 39:58
Right to

Sydney Brackins 39:59
Am

Michelle Hayes 39:59
my.

Sydney Brackins 39:59
I right? So I kind of like that there is, but I was right next to the door, so

Michelle Hayes 40:04
It.

Sydney Brackins 40:06
lock it.

Michelle Hayes 40:06
It

calls.

Sydney Brackins 40:09
Called my friend who was just got I was like you. And don't ask me why I didn't call the police at first I.

Michelle Hayes 40:16
I have no idea.

Sydney Brackins 40:17
It was. He was a.

Michelle Hayes 40:21
You think of who would help me in this? You don't think of the

in like I don't want Who would save me here.

Sydney Brackins 40:33
I called him. I was like, You need to come get me right now. I gave him the address and I was like. You know, bring your firearm because I knew we had one. So he, like, practically bust. Or I.

Michelle Hayes 40:44
I leave.

Sydney Brackins 40:46
Incident. So come to find

Michelle Hayes 40:49
Now.

Sydney Brackins 40:49
out. My roommate had that.

Michelle Hayes 40:54
Like the time he asked me.

Rich Bennett 40:56
Oh, geez.

Sydney Brackins 40:57
Yeah. And so I was like, I was like, Well, I need to make better decisions, so. I didn't know. But at the same

Michelle Hayes 41:04
See.

Sydney Brackins 41:04
time, like.

Had way more assertiveness. Before that guy ever.

I'm leaving. I'm gone. But, you know. Hindsight's 2020, so. Yes,

Michelle Hayes 41:21
Yes. I

Sydney Brackins 41:21

Michelle Hayes 41:21
mean,

Sydney Brackins 41:22
am, obviously.

Michelle Hayes 41:22
obviously, like, did

Sydney Brackins 41:25
Did you

Michelle Hayes 41:25
you

Sydney Brackins 41:25
know

Michelle Hayes 41:25
know?

Sydney Brackins 41:25
I had there was a great mental.

Emotional journey

Michelle Hayes 41:31
I was

Sydney Brackins 41:32
did there

Michelle Hayes 41:32
there

Sydney Brackins 41:32
for

Michelle Hayes 41:32
for a

Sydney Brackins 41:32

Michelle Hayes 41:32
bit.

Sydney Brackins 41:32
bit. And once I got out of

Michelle Hayes 41:35
That

Sydney Brackins 41:35
that.

Michelle Hayes 41:36
really?

Sydney Brackins 41:39
To do something for myself. So if I'm ever in a position like that again, I can take.

Michelle Hayes 41:43
Here. My.

Sydney Brackins 41:44
Myself. Seth

Michelle Hayes 41:45
That's

Sydney Brackins 41:45
Star.

Michelle Hayes 41:45
going to be like looking for arts.

Sydney Brackins 41:48
And I found it at the time it was

Michelle Hayes 41:49
The

Sydney Brackins 41:49
called in.

Michelle Hayes 41:50
Japanese.

Sydney Brackins 41:51
Empire Dojo.

Michelle Hayes 41:53
The first.

Sydney Brackins 41:54
was at. Light bulb went off in my head.

Michelle Hayes 41:57
This

Sydney Brackins 41:57
Does

Michelle Hayes 41:57
is

Sydney Brackins 41:57
it.

Michelle Hayes 41:57
it.

Sydney Brackins 41:58
And.

Michelle Hayes 42:00
You. No, you. You're

Rich Bennett 42:02
Her

Michelle Hayes 42:02
black

Rich Bennett 42:02
black belt.

Michelle Hayes 42:03
or white.

Sydney Brackins 42:06
There's lots of moments and classes.

Michelle Hayes 42:09
Because you get inside your.

Sydney Brackins 42:12
Had and whether you have,

Michelle Hayes 42:14

Sydney Brackins 42:14
feel

Michelle Hayes 42:14
feel

Sydney Brackins 42:14
like

Michelle Hayes 42:14
like everyone feels this

Sydney Brackins 42:15
at some point

Michelle Hayes 42:16
way.

Sydney Brackins 42:16
there's

Michelle Hayes 42:16
There's this

Sydney Brackins 42:16
this.

Michelle Hayes 42:17
feeling.

Sydney Brackins 42:18
Well, if I if I can't do it right the first time, I'm just going to sit here.

And what a lot of people realize.

Michelle Hayes 42:29
Surgery is.

Sydney Brackins 42:30
It's better to do some.

And so they they say. Right. But I like the another saying that.

Michelle Hayes 42:43
Through

Sydney Brackins 42:45
Yeah. Through

Michelle Hayes 42:45
through

Sydney Brackins 42:46
your. Your imperfect practice.

Michelle Hayes 42:49
this.

Sydney Brackins 42:49
You. You perfected technique. Practice.

Michelle Hayes 42:52
Practice for a week to

Sydney Brackins 42:54
To make

Michelle Hayes 42:54
make

Sydney Brackins 42:54
sure

Michelle Hayes 42:54
sure.

Sydney Brackins 42:54
that your muscle memory.

Michelle Hayes 42:56
There.

Sydney Brackins 42:57
You're training.

Michelle Hayes 42:58
You might have.

Sydney Brackins 42:59
Certain reactions. Stressful situations.

Michelle Hayes 43:02
So.

Sydney Brackins 43:02
So you're not.

Michelle Hayes 43:03
So.

Sydney Brackins 43:06
And so. You know, that's not just

Michelle Hayes 43:10
Someone

Sydney Brackins 43:10
someone

Michelle Hayes 43:10
approached

Sydney Brackins 43:10
approaching.

Michelle Hayes 43:10
you.

There's a

Sydney Brackins 43:13
The

Michelle Hayes 43:13
whole.

Sydney Brackins 43:13
whole preemptive response of having situation.

Michelle Hayes 43:17
This.

Sydney Brackins 43:17
Having the forethought to say, do I want to put myself in a position like this? Presents itself.

Michelle Hayes 43:22
So de-escalation right there. And

Sydney Brackins 43:25
And

Michelle Hayes 43:25
then

Sydney Brackins 43:25
then last case scenario,

Michelle Hayes 43:26
you take

Sydney Brackins 43:27
if the

Michelle Hayes 43:27
the

Sydney Brackins 43:27
situation

Michelle Hayes 43:27
situation.

Sydney Brackins 43:28
cannot be escalated or cannot be escalated or has already escalated to a point

Michelle Hayes 43:33
We were in danger.

Sydney Brackins 43:35
danger.

Michelle Hayes 43:40
Did you talk to your

Rich Bennett 43:41
Friend

Michelle Hayes 43:41
friend?

Rich Bennett 43:41
after.

Sydney Brackins 43:44
Kara.

Rich Bennett 43:45
Yeah.

Sydney Brackins 43:45
Yeah. So.

Michelle Hayes 43:47
After the.

Sydney Brackins 43:48
That incident? No. I distance myself from her. She was basically like. So. She.

Michelle Hayes 43:58
You feel.

Sydney Brackins 43:59
Fill out these forms like personality forms.

Michelle Hayes 44:03
She was with you in.

Sydney Brackins 44:05
I just don't know how. Because

Michelle Hayes 44:06
Because we

Sydney Brackins 44:06
we

Michelle Hayes 44:07
were

Sydney Brackins 44:07
were.

Michelle Hayes 44:09
a very Christian

Sydney Brackins 44:10
The household.

Michelle Hayes 44:10
household.

Sydney Brackins 44:11
No exposure to.

Michelle Hayes 44:12
Any.

Sydney Brackins 44:12
Thing and she. Grew up at the age of 13.

Rich Bennett 44:18
What?

Sydney Brackins 44:18
And like all it was all about the party. Settle my form like I want nothing to do with the party life.

Michelle Hayes 44:25
I was pregnant with twins. I

Sydney Brackins 44:28
And

Michelle Hayes 44:28
and

Sydney Brackins 44:29
that's

Michelle Hayes 44:29
that's

Sydney Brackins 44:29
what.

Michelle Hayes 44:29
what keeps me in situations with.

Rich Bennett 44:31
Somebody dropped

Michelle Hayes 44:32
The

Rich Bennett 44:32
the ball.

Michelle Hayes 44:32
ball.

Rich Bennett 44:33
To.

Sydney Brackins 44:35
I think that was more to appease people

Michelle Hayes 44:37
People

Sydney Brackins 44:37
than it was to

Michelle Hayes 44:37
actually

Sydney Brackins 44:37
actually.

Michelle Hayes 44:38
think

that

Sydney Brackins 44:40
That was

Michelle Hayes 44:40
was the

Sydney Brackins 44:41
the

Michelle Hayes 44:41
worst.

Sydney Brackins 44:41
worst pairing that. Yeah, it was awful. So.

Michelle Hayes 44:44
Never heard of one that extreme. I know sometimes they opposites like to help. You had a really good influence and she had really bad influence. They pair sometimes they will pair opposites in hopes that

Rich Bennett 44:59
Opposition.

Michelle Hayes 44:59
the opposites attract and the one who is mindful of everything else and rules and laws and things like that will pull the other one taking

Sydney Brackins 45:10
Take

Michelle Hayes 45:11
in consideration.

Sydney Brackins 45:11
Integration

Michelle Hayes 45:12
I should say

Sydney Brackins 45:13
College

Michelle Hayes 45:13
college

Sydney Brackins 45:14
and.

Michelle Hayes 45:14
education. Something you.

Sydney Brackins 45:16
You're assuming all.

Michelle Hayes 45:18
Mm hmm.

Sydney Brackins 45:19
So I have no idea what she put on her phone.

Michelle Hayes 45:21
Right.

Sydney Brackins 45:21
I know mine was honest because I wanted to set myself up for success.

Michelle Hayes 45:27
First.

Sydney Brackins 45:28
You were shaking hands and saying hi. Like, you know, I didn't know anything, but. After witnessing her decision the

Michelle Hayes 45:35
Where

Sydney Brackins 45:35
where

Michelle Hayes 45:36
these decisions

Sydney Brackins 45:36
led

Michelle Hayes 45:36
led her.

Sydney Brackins 45:37
her.

Michelle Hayes 45:37
I realized this wasn't a person I wanted to associate with. So going back.

Rich Bennett 45:43
Back in that. You say you're meeting tonight?

Michelle Hayes 45:48
I heard you say so.

Rich Bennett 45:50
You said you introduced yourself as.

Why not, Sensei?

Michelle Hayes 45:56
The answer

Sydney Brackins 45:57
Answers.

Michelle Hayes 45:58
is very simple.

Sydney Brackins 45:58
So at our school, we teach Japanese. But we also teach. Krav Maga is not Japanese. It was formulated. But it's it's a conglomeration of styles.

Michelle Hayes 46:12
Styles.

Sydney Brackins 46:13
So in Krav, you learn boxing.

Michelle Hayes 46:15
Thank you.

Sydney Brackins 46:16
Judo. Brazilian

Michelle Hayes 46:18
It seems

Sydney Brackins 46:18
wrestling.

Michelle Hayes 46:19
like it's just basically.

Sydney Brackins 46:21
Accumulate.

Michelle Hayes 46:23
Yeah.

Sydney Brackins 46:26
Very straight.

Michelle Hayes 46:27
So?

So it doesn't.

Sydney Brackins 46:31
It makes sense for me to have a title of Sensei because that's Sensei means.

Michelle Hayes 46:35
Teacher in Japanese, right?

Sydney Brackins 46:37
So I. My titles.

Michelle Hayes 46:39
Coach.

Sydney Brackins 46:41
So that way it.

Michelle Hayes 46:43
Yes, I

Rich Bennett 46:45

Michelle Hayes 46:45
knew

Rich Bennett 46:45
knew that

Michelle Hayes 46:45
that.

Rich Bennett 46:45

Michelle Hayes 46:45
I was

Rich Bennett 46:46
was just

Michelle Hayes 46:46
just

Rich Bennett 46:46
testing

Michelle Hayes 46:46
testing.

Rich Bennett 46:46
you. If you knew what the hell you were talking.

Michelle Hayes 46:49
Okay. Okay.

Sydney Brackins 46:51
You can't see Rich's bombastic side eye right now.

Michelle Hayes 46:54
So what's next for?

Rich Bennett 46:56
Coach Sensei Sydney.

Sydney Brackins 46:59
You mean?

Rich Bennett 47:01
Look, you can't even say it right.

Michelle Hayes 47:03
It's maybe

Sydney Brackins 47:05
You like

Michelle Hayes 47:05
like

Sydney Brackins 47:05
for.

Michelle Hayes 47:05
four five people. She's trying to remember.

Rich Bennett 47:08
Coach Sensei.

Sydney Brackins 47:09
Yeah, I've problems with that.

Rich Bennett 47:11
Ninja Therapist Motorcycle race.

Michelle Hayes 47:15
Sir.

Rich Bennett 47:17
Artist, Sydney.

Michelle Hayes 47:18
Sydney. What's.

Sydney Brackins 47:21
I got to add.

Rich Bennett 47:21
Title.

Sydney Brackins 47:22
I got to.

Michelle Hayes 47:24
So what's next is.

Sydney Brackins 47:30
At the school of not just being a teacher, but being an owner in the sense of I am. Working more. I'm more.

Michelle Hayes 47:39
Shoes. I'm

Sydney Brackins 47:39
I am guiding

Michelle Hayes 47:39
gonna.

Sydney Brackins 47:40
the school in a direction where we can see growth and more quality growth in terms.

Michelle Hayes 47:46
BBC News

Sydney Brackins 47:49
And the

Michelle Hayes 47:50
service.

Sydney Brackins 47:50
service we

Michelle Hayes 47:50
We.

Sydney Brackins 47:50
offer to the community. As time goes on.

Stakes we learn from

about.

Michelle Hayes 48:00
My in

Sydney Brackins 48:01
It's.

Michelle Hayes 48:01
terms of managing the.

Sydney Brackins 48:02
That I can now be a lead

Michelle Hayes 48:04
The

Sydney Brackins 48:04
Other

Michelle Hayes 48:04
other

Sydney Brackins 48:05
employee.

Michelle Hayes 48:05
employees and instructors

Sydney Brackins 48:07
Where

Michelle Hayes 48:07
where

Sydney Brackins 48:07
we

Michelle Hayes 48:07
we

Sydney Brackins 48:07
need to go. I can see the holes before

Michelle Hayes 48:09
were they.

Sydney Brackins 48:09
they even occur and say, okay, well, based on.

We need

Michelle Hayes 48:14
This

Sydney Brackins 48:15
becomes

Michelle Hayes 48:15
becomes

Sydney Brackins 48:15
an.

Michelle Hayes 48:15
an issue.

Sydney Brackins 48:16
And, you know, a common example.

Michelle Hayes 48:20
Would be.

Sydney Brackins 48:20
Terms of student growth and.

Michelle Hayes 48:23
So.

Sydney Brackins 48:24
If I'm noticing you, We.

Michelle Hayes 48:26
We just had a great.

Sydney Brackins 48:26
Graduation for our students,

Michelle Hayes 48:27
It's

Sydney Brackins 48:27
like

Michelle Hayes 48:27
like,

Sydney Brackins 48:27
a week

Michelle Hayes 48:28
you

Sydney Brackins 48:28
ago.

Michelle Hayes 48:28
know.

Sydney Brackins 48:28
So we're brand new into our new site.

Michelle Hayes 48:30
Michael.

Sydney Brackins 48:31
And I noticed that from the graduation we were doing a. In terms of like with the little.

Michelle Hayes 48:38
It's.

Sydney Brackins 48:39
Uh, during your graduation. The whole point is we want to be able to have.

Michelle Hayes 48:44
Students.

Sydney Brackins 48:45
Show off their knowledge to their families. But all the drills that we were doing, I was having to. Help out a lot and guide them and even demonstrate at a graduation. That shouldn't happen. Should be able to.

Michelle Hayes 49:02
Is.

That

Sydney Brackins 49:09
Wasn't

Michelle Hayes 49:09
was.

Sydney Brackins 49:09
the case, which means that is a that is an instruction problem. So with my

Michelle Hayes 49:15
My

Sydney Brackins 49:15
team,

Michelle Hayes 49:15
team. We

Sydney Brackins 49:15
we did

Michelle Hayes 49:16
did

Sydney Brackins 49:16
some

Michelle Hayes 49:16
some trading

Sydney Brackins 49:16
training. We.

Michelle Hayes 49:16
leading into this new cycle.

Sydney Brackins 49:17
Goal to say, okay, well. To do is we're going to dial back on the number.

Michelle Hayes 49:22
We're taking.

Sydney Brackins 49:23
But focus on heavier drilling and

Michelle Hayes 49:25
And

Sydney Brackins 49:25
also.

Michelle Hayes 49:25
also.

Sydney Brackins 49:27
Greater sense of accountability. All on the mat now for the

Michelle Hayes 49:30
The little

Sydney Brackins 49:30
little time.

Michelle Hayes 49:30
time.

Sydney Brackins 49:32
Three, four and five year olds. What? That.

Michelle Hayes 49:35
Previous.

Sydney Brackins 49:36
Pinning down

Michelle Hayes 49:38
It's

Sydney Brackins 49:39
for

Michelle Hayes 49:39
for your

Sydney Brackins 49:40
your older crowd

Michelle Hayes 49:42
support.

Sydney Brackins 49:42
or.

Michelle Hayes 49:43
If you.

Sydney Brackins 49:45
Well, that's not so much focus, but it's more respected. And then for adults, we didn't have a problem with them. No holes there to fill. But also for teenagers, a big thing to address is enthusiasm.

Michelle Hayes 50:08
Know,

Sydney Brackins 50:08
Now, oh, I

Michelle Hayes 50:09

Sydney Brackins 50:09
hate

Michelle Hayes 50:09
hate

Sydney Brackins 50:09
my.

Michelle Hayes 50:09
my life. Oh, moody teenagers. I know nothing about that. Some adults are. So we could be this cycle of things.

Sydney Brackins 50:22
I. Or more old school in terms of how we. How we teach. Oh.

Rich Bennett 50:30
But that

Michelle Hayes 50:30
It's good because it's keeping the

Rich Bennett 50:31
tradition.

Michelle Hayes 50:31
tradition. Yes.

Sydney Brackins 50:33
Yes. And so. We make sure.

Michelle Hayes 50:37
Families

Sydney Brackins 50:42
So our process, because I want to make sure that if you're if you're interested in, let's say, discipline for your child, then you're going to be okay with actually

Michelle Hayes 50:51
Actually

Sydney Brackins 50:52
seeing

Michelle Hayes 50:52
seeing

Sydney Brackins 50:52
someone

Michelle Hayes 50:52
someone

Sydney Brackins 50:52
to.

Michelle Hayes 50:52
is someone you're

Sydney Brackins 50:53
Child

Michelle Hayes 50:53
not.

Sydney Brackins 50:53
because a lot of parents will say, I want you to this the second. Doing that. They're like, What do you do?

There's heavy conversations.

Michelle Hayes 51:02
It's like.

Sydney Brackins 51:03
Here's what I will do. For example, if I. Class with your ten year old. I see them doing something

Michelle Hayes 51:12
I'm thinking.

Sydney Brackins 51:12
outside of the drill to another student, they

Michelle Hayes 51:14
They will

Sydney Brackins 51:14
will receive

Michelle Hayes 51:15
receive more punishment.

Sydney Brackins 51:15
punishment. They are going to go. Corporal Punish.

Rich Bennett 51:19
So I thought you.

Sydney Brackins 51:20
Yeah. So there, I'm going to stand.

Michelle Hayes 51:23
They're going to hold a massive ball.

Sydney Brackins 51:24
All above their head and they can't move till I tell them the. And.

Rich Bennett 51:28
That.

Sydney Brackins 51:29
And like in the.

Michelle Hayes 51:31
Reason for

Sydney Brackins 51:31
That.

Michelle Hayes 51:31
that.

Sydney Brackins 51:32
And this is where I go to. Our old school mentality is in order for kids and adults.

Michelle Hayes 51:38
There.

Sydney Brackins 51:38
They're not.

Michelle Hayes 51:39
My.

Sydney Brackins 51:39
They don't it's not that they don't get punishment. In order for people to learn from their mistakes. Not make them again. They need a.

Michelle Hayes 51:49
Otherwise.

Sydney Brackins 51:50
Sense for action. And so what that. Will

Michelle Hayes 51:53
It.

Sydney Brackins 51:53
do. For a ten year old is say, okay, you

Michelle Hayes 51:57
You

Sydney Brackins 51:57
have

Michelle Hayes 51:57
have

Sydney Brackins 51:57
to

Michelle Hayes 51:57
to

Sydney Brackins 51:57
hold

Michelle Hayes 51:57
hold

Sydney Brackins 51:57
this

Michelle Hayes 51:57
this

Sydney Brackins 51:58
heavy

Michelle Hayes 51:58
heavy

Sydney Brackins 51:58
object.

Michelle Hayes 51:58
object in your

Sydney Brackins 51:59
You are

Michelle Hayes 51:59
mouth.

Sydney Brackins 51:59
not allowed to participate in the drill because you did not follow.

Michelle Hayes 52:02
Direction.

Sydney Brackins 52:04
And then on the other.

Michelle Hayes 52:06
You know.

Sydney Brackins 52:07
We're not just punishing.

Michelle Hayes 52:09
Let's make a

Sydney Brackins 52:10
That's not.

Michelle Hayes 52:11
decision.

Sydney Brackins 52:12
That's not good for growth.

Michelle Hayes 52:14
When they do

Sydney Brackins 52:15
Do.

Michelle Hayes 52:15
exactly

what you say, when

Sydney Brackins 52:18
Lobby. And I hear

Michelle Hayes 52:19
your

Sydney Brackins 52:20
a kid

Michelle Hayes 52:20
kids

Sydney Brackins 52:20
say,

Michelle Hayes 52:20
say,

Sydney Brackins 52:20
yes,

Michelle Hayes 52:20
yes,

Sydney Brackins 52:20
ma'am

Michelle Hayes 52:20
ma'am.

Sydney Brackins 52:21
to

Michelle Hayes 52:21
To

Sydney Brackins 52:21
their

Michelle Hayes 52:21
the.

Sydney Brackins 52:21
mom or yes. Or their dad. I mean. Immediately.

Michelle Hayes 52:25
So

Sydney Brackins 52:25
So there's

Michelle Hayes 52:25
the.

Sydney Brackins 52:26
it's a balance, right? It can't just be all

Michelle Hayes 52:28
All praise, praises, punishment,

Sydney Brackins 52:29
and

Michelle Hayes 52:29
or

Sydney Brackins 52:29
are all.

Michelle Hayes 52:29
all punishment.

Sydney Brackins 52:32
Unbalanced India. It has to

Michelle Hayes 52:34
You

Sydney Brackins 52:34
be a good

Michelle Hayes 52:34
could.

Sydney Brackins 52:34
balance. So

Michelle Hayes 52:38
Basically going

Sydney Brackins 52:38
going

Michelle Hayes 52:38
back

Sydney Brackins 52:38
back to

Michelle Hayes 52:39
here

Sydney Brackins 52:39
Europe

Michelle Hayes 52:40
is by

Sydney Brackins 52:41
and

Michelle Hayes 52:41
making

Sydney Brackins 52:41
making

Michelle Hayes 52:41
sure

Sydney Brackins 52:41
sure

Michelle Hayes 52:42
that the

Sydney Brackins 52:42
creating the

Michelle Hayes 52:43
next

Sydney Brackins 52:43
next generation.

Michelle Hayes 52:43
generation.

Sydney Brackins 52:45
Instructors to follow for my role. I'm still.

Michelle Hayes 52:49
Now.

Sydney Brackins 52:50
Now I'm really trying

Michelle Hayes 52:51
Trying

Sydney Brackins 52:51
to

Michelle Hayes 52:51
to

Sydney Brackins 52:52
guide

Michelle Hayes 52:52
buy

Sydney Brackins 52:52
the.

Michelle Hayes 52:52
the

Sydney Brackins 52:53
The business

Michelle Hayes 52:53
business.

Sydney Brackins 52:54
side of

Rich Bennett 52:54
Yeah.

Sydney Brackins 52:54
it and make sure. Remain open and

Michelle Hayes 52:58

Sydney Brackins 52:58
remain,

Michelle Hayes 52:58
mean,

Sydney Brackins 52:59
you

Michelle Hayes 52:59
you know,

Sydney Brackins 52:59
know, taking.

Michelle Hayes 52:59
taking care of your community,

Sydney Brackins 53:00
Community because

Michelle Hayes 53:01
that's

Sydney Brackins 53:01
that's something

Michelle Hayes 53:01
something

Sydney Brackins 53:01
really

Michelle Hayes 53:01
really

Sydney Brackins 53:02
big

Michelle Hayes 53:02
big.

Sydney Brackins 53:02
we

Michelle Hayes 53:02
We

Sydney Brackins 53:02
do.

Michelle Hayes 53:02
do.

Sydney Brackins 53:02
We

Michelle Hayes 53:02
We are

Sydney Brackins 53:03
are constantly

Michelle Hayes 53:03
constantly.

Sydney Brackins 53:04
working with other.

Michelle Hayes 53:06
Individuals.

Sydney Brackins 53:08
To assist them, then

Michelle Hayes 53:09
That

Sydney Brackins 53:10
that could

Michelle Hayes 53:10
could

Sydney Brackins 53:10
be.

Michelle Hayes 53:10
be.

Sydney Brackins 53:12
Or for.

Michelle Hayes 53:14
Situations

Sydney Brackins 53:16
So

Michelle Hayes 53:16
like

Sydney Brackins 53:16
like workplace

Michelle Hayes 53:17
workplace.

Sydney Brackins 53:17
safety

Michelle Hayes 53:18
We

Sydney Brackins 53:18
we.

Michelle Hayes 53:18
with?

Sydney Brackins 53:20
Private school kids. We'll do programs called. For the day where we

Michelle Hayes 53:26
Replacement

Sydney Brackins 53:27
out of

Michelle Hayes 53:27
of

Sydney Brackins 53:27
the.

Michelle Hayes 53:27
PE teacher.

Sydney Brackins 53:29
About antebellum. antebellum.

Michelle Hayes 53:32

Sydney Brackins 53:32
I work

Michelle Hayes 53:32
work with you here.

Right here.

Sydney Brackins 53:36
here I

Michelle Hayes 53:36

Sydney Brackins 53:36
was

Michelle Hayes 53:36
was

Sydney Brackins 53:36
at.

Michelle Hayes 53:38
here to teach you.

Sydney Brackins 53:39
About respect and focus. Given there a little more

Michelle Hayes 53:43
Attention to their daycare providers.

Sydney Brackins 53:45
trouble,

that

Michelle Hayes 53:50
That

Sydney Brackins 53:50
is.

Michelle Hayes 53:50
is our position right now is.

Sydney Brackins 53:52
Making sure that even though it's. The whole goal is that we

Michelle Hayes 53:58
You're

Sydney Brackins 53:58
are

Michelle Hayes 53:58
creating

Sydney Brackins 53:59
being the

Michelle Hayes 53:59
the

Sydney Brackins 53:59
next.

Michelle Hayes 53:59
next generation of people.

Sydney Brackins 54:00
All that others look at and go, Wow, that is an amazing young man. Or an.

Michelle Hayes 54:07
You.

Sydney Brackins 54:07
Not because of like, you know, how athletic

Michelle Hayes 54:10
What?

Sydney Brackins 54:10
but

Michelle Hayes 54:11
Like

Sydney Brackins 54:11
like,

Michelle Hayes 54:11
their secrets? That

Sydney Brackins 54:12
they're

Michelle Hayes 54:12
they're stupid

Sydney Brackins 54:13
so.

Michelle Hayes 54:13
for

Sydney Brackins 54:14
Being

Michelle Hayes 54:14
being

Sydney Brackins 54:15
a leader like

Michelle Hayes 54:15
like that.

Sydney Brackins 54:15
that, that we want to create a wave of people that can change the

Michelle Hayes 54:19
Of course, the future

Sydney Brackins 54:21
things we're doing.

Michelle Hayes 54:23
because.

Sydney Brackins 54:23
Because the amount of feedback I get. Like, let me tell you

Michelle Hayes 54:28
Any

Sydney Brackins 54:28
feedback

Michelle Hayes 54:28
feedback.

Sydney Brackins 54:28
that.

Weeks ago she took.

Michelle Hayes 54:34
I think it's.

Sydney Brackins 54:36
The boy has only done two classes with.

And the mom texts me and goes, We are definitely.

Michelle Hayes 54:45
Definitely because.

Sydney Brackins 54:47
Cause I have never. I've never gotten a

Michelle Hayes 54:50
My

Sydney Brackins 54:50
sunburn.

Michelle Hayes 54:50
son's school until this week. Wow.

Sydney Brackins 54:54
Because her son has behavioral. And is constantly hands on. Class. And this week he didn't at all.

Michelle Hayes 55:01
And so.

Sydney Brackins 55:02
Stuff like that.

Michelle Hayes 55:03
Right? Yeah. That's not.

Sydney Brackins 55:05
Not

Michelle Hayes 55:07
Feedback every

Sydney Brackins 55:08
every

Michelle Hayes 55:08
single

Sydney Brackins 55:08
single

Michelle Hayes 55:08
day

Sydney Brackins 55:08
day a.

Michelle Hayes 55:09
about the changes you

can.

Rich Bennett 55:14
Back. Not just discipline, but respect.

Michelle Hayes 55:16
And as a parent, I mean, that's something you tried, but it.

Rich Bennett 55:21
Yeah.

Michelle Hayes 55:21
Not mom or dad.

Sydney Brackins 55:22
Exactly. And

Michelle Hayes 55:24
Step.

Sydney Brackins 55:25
yes.

Michelle Hayes 55:26
Struggle with.

Sydney Brackins 55:27
Yeah. And a lot of it's like, why it's easier for us is one because we're not mom and dad. We're.

Rich Bennett 55:33
Mm.

Sydney Brackins 55:34
Stranger in a sense. But two is we have a very unbiased on

Michelle Hayes 55:40
Had

Sydney Brackins 55:40
attachment.

Michelle Hayes 55:40
to be.

Sydney Brackins 55:42
Meaning, you know, as a parent, you you would lay your life down for.

Michelle Hayes 55:46
Right.

Sydney Brackins 55:47
Which means that you give them more grace than sometimes

Michelle Hayes 55:50
That's what

Sydney Brackins 55:50
what they

Michelle Hayes 55:50
they.

Sydney Brackins 55:50
probably deserve.

Michelle Hayes 55:51
We are completely on.

Sydney Brackins 55:52
I'm biased towards each and.

Michelle Hayes 55:54
So we.

Sydney Brackins 55:55
Situations occur in

Michelle Hayes 55:57
Black

Sydney Brackins 55:57
black.

Michelle Hayes 55:57
and white. We.

Sydney Brackins 55:58
Say. All right. Yeah. You

Michelle Hayes 56:00
You

Sydney Brackins 56:00
messed

Michelle Hayes 56:00
can stop

Sydney Brackins 56:00
up here

Michelle Hayes 56:00
here.

Sydney Brackins 56:01
like Jane. Here's

Michelle Hayes 56:02
Here's your

Sydney Brackins 56:02
your punishment.

Michelle Hayes 56:02
punishment.

Sydney Brackins 56:04
And there's no hesitation because. We get that one on one time.

Michelle Hayes 56:09
All of

Sydney Brackins 56:09
Of

Michelle Hayes 56:09
them.

Sydney Brackins 56:09
them, we are able to assess with no bias, you know. What they do is right and what

Michelle Hayes 56:16
What they did was wrong. And.

Sydney Brackins 56:19
Because we're.

Michelle Hayes 56:20
Working with the person we

Sydney Brackins 56:22
But

Michelle Hayes 56:22
helped

Sydney Brackins 56:22
we get breaks

Michelle Hayes 56:23
break.

Sydney Brackins 56:23
so it's not 24 seven. We're able to see progress.

Michelle Hayes 56:26
Let's track

Sydney Brackins 56:27
Progress

Michelle Hayes 56:28
progress and see what

Sydney Brackins 56:30
progress

Michelle Hayes 56:30
progress

Sydney Brackins 56:30
is not

Michelle Hayes 56:30
has been

Sydney Brackins 56:30
being

Michelle Hayes 56:31
made

Sydney Brackins 56:31
made

Michelle Hayes 56:31
in conversations

Sydney Brackins 56:33
friends

Michelle Hayes 56:33
with

Sydney Brackins 56:33
with either the child enough or.

Michelle Hayes 56:35
parents.

Sydney Brackins 56:38
But yeah, it's.

Michelle Hayes 56:39
It's definitely.

Sydney Brackins 56:39
Definitely way more than kicking and punching. And so that's it's an ordeal, you know.

Michelle Hayes 56:46
You.

Sydney Brackins 56:46
Help new families understand what exactly we do and how it's different than your average karate or taekwondo.

Rich Bennett 56:53
Yeah.

Sydney Brackins 56:55
What I tell people. I was like, the easiest way I can explain it,

Michelle Hayes 56:58
You're enrolling in

Sydney Brackins 57:00
you're

Michelle Hayes 57:00
your

Sydney Brackins 57:00
paying

Michelle Hayes 57:00
pay

Sydney Brackins 57:00
for.

Michelle Hayes 57:01
grade education.

Sydney Brackins 57:02
Not just.

Michelle Hayes 57:03
Education.

Sydney Brackins 57:04
On martial arts, but in.

Michelle Hayes 57:06
Education, educational life.

Sydney Brackins 57:08
About. We're

Michelle Hayes 57:09
We're

Sydney Brackins 57:09
going

Michelle Hayes 57:09
gonna

Sydney Brackins 57:09
to

Michelle Hayes 57:09
teach

Sydney Brackins 57:09
teach

Michelle Hayes 57:10
them that. When you hear

Sydney Brackins 57:11
you the

Michelle Hayes 57:11
the

Sydney Brackins 57:11
word

Michelle Hayes 57:11
word

Sydney Brackins 57:11
no.

Michelle Hayes 57:11
now, your

Sydney Brackins 57:12
You're

Michelle Hayes 57:12
response

Sydney Brackins 57:12
a.

Michelle Hayes 57:13
is not going to be

Sydney Brackins 57:14
To throw a fit and whine. You're

Michelle Hayes 57:16
you're

Sydney Brackins 57:16
going

Michelle Hayes 57:16
going.

Sydney Brackins 57:16
to be respectful about it.

Michelle Hayes 57:18
When your

Sydney Brackins 57:19
Your parents.

Michelle Hayes 57:20
to do something.

Sydney Brackins 57:21
If you say. If you say.

Michelle Hayes 57:22
Say, Yeah, yeah.

Sydney Brackins 57:24
That's not listening.

Michelle Hayes 57:25
Hearing.

Sydney Brackins 57:26
So how do you live?

Michelle Hayes 57:27
First time when you're in school

Sydney Brackins 57:29
School. And

Michelle Hayes 57:29
and you

Sydney Brackins 57:29
you say

Michelle Hayes 57:30
say, I.

Sydney Brackins 57:30
I hate. Well, let's.

Michelle Hayes 57:32
Understand what the school is doing for you and

Sydney Brackins 57:34
And why

Michelle Hayes 57:35
why

Sydney Brackins 57:35
your

Michelle Hayes 57:35
you're.

Sydney Brackins 57:35
attitude.

Michelle Hayes 57:36
You could change the course. Your future.

Sydney Brackins 57:38
And not

Michelle Hayes 57:39
Not a

Sydney Brackins 57:40
traditional.

Michelle Hayes 57:40
traditional school that begins, right.

Sydney Brackins 57:43
It's going to be up to

Michelle Hayes 57:44
The individual teacher

Sydney Brackins 57:46
that.

Michelle Hayes 57:46
that

Sydney Brackins 57:47
And so we

Michelle Hayes 57:47
we

Sydney Brackins 57:48
want.

Michelle Hayes 57:48
want to.

Sydney Brackins 57:48
Provide the education for kids.

Michelle Hayes 57:51
They're not getting school.

So

I guess I'm the guy.

Rich Bennett 58:01
But my God, how many years have you been doing this now?

Sydney Brackins 58:05
Since 2017.

Rich Bennett 58:06
Since 2017.

Sydney Brackins 58:08
I can't do math. It's why I came.

Michelle Hayes 58:10
I want to use.

I just tried to kick you and my foot got licked, so.

Sydney Brackins 58:23
Here like that. All the.

Michelle Hayes 58:29
So I think that is the one key. You say you.

Rich Bennett 58:32
You had mentioned Bob above his head.

His arms, but also

Michelle Hayes 58:39
How can you share your story? Well, it doesn't

Rich Bennett 58:44
doesn't

Michelle Hayes 58:44
necessarily

Rich Bennett 58:44
necessarily have

Michelle Hayes 58:45
have

Rich Bennett 58:45
to

Michelle Hayes 58:45
to be

Rich Bennett 58:45
be a kid or adult

Michelle Hayes 58:48
you.

Rich Bennett 58:49
at

Michelle Hayes 58:49
At

Rich Bennett 58:49
first.

Michelle Hayes 58:49
first, your thoughts?

Rich Bennett 58:53
How?

Michelle Hayes 58:54
How?

Rich Bennett 59:03
Notice how she.

Michelle Hayes 59:05
George Bush.

Rich Bennett 59:05
You didn't remember coming on the park?

Sydney Brackins 59:09
Tell you what, Raj.

Michelle Hayes 59:16
No, no.

That was the worst thing I.

Three weeks ago,

Sydney Brackins 59:25
Go. I

Michelle Hayes 59:25
I.

Sydney Brackins 59:25
believe four weeks ago.

Michelle Hayes 59:28
The way

Sydney Brackins 59:28
The way

Michelle Hayes 59:29
we.

Sydney Brackins 59:29
we introduced

Michelle Hayes 59:31
You know,

Sydney Brackins 59:32

Michelle Hayes 59:32
I always

Sydney Brackins 59:32
always work

Michelle Hayes 59:32
work with these animals

Sydney Brackins 59:33
those one.

Michelle Hayes 59:34
one on one because it's really important to me because we want.

Sydney Brackins 59:43
That was me hitting Rich.

Michelle Hayes 59:47
You're doing your justification.

Sydney Brackins 59:50
Because it's foreign environment and it's just it's nerve wracking. Right.

Michelle Hayes 59:56
You are so

Sydney Brackins 59:57
So.

Michelle Hayes 59:58
serious.

Sydney Brackins 59:59
And they're interested further. Technically, they had three children, but it was.

Michelle Hayes 1:00:03
Primarily for

Sydney Brackins 1:00:04
Or the

Michelle Hayes 1:00:04
the

Sydney Brackins 1:00:04
one.

Michelle Hayes 1:00:05
right.

Sydney Brackins 1:00:06
And the one boy. And he was. He is seven.

Michelle Hayes 1:00:10
The middle

Sydney Brackins 1:00:10
Seven.

Michelle Hayes 1:00:10
child, wasn't it?

Sydney Brackins 1:00:13
Oldest.

Michelle Hayes 1:00:14
That was my.

Sydney Brackins 1:00:16
Yeah. Oldest.

Michelle Hayes 1:00:17
All this ones are the reason for the rules.

Sydney Brackins 1:00:19
And so I'm working with this kid and I'm like.

Oh, I don't know if this is going to work out.

Michelle Hayes 1:00:28
The reason I

Sydney Brackins 1:00:29

Michelle Hayes 1:00:29
say.

Sydney Brackins 1:00:29
say that is so.

Michelle Hayes 1:00:31
One of the things that's.

Sydney Brackins 1:00:32
What separates us is we have a lot of students that are special needs are on the spectrum in our school.

Rich Bennett 1:00:37
Mm hmm.

Sydney Brackins 1:00:38
Because

Michelle Hayes 1:00:38
Great.

Sydney Brackins 1:00:39
we yeah, we really make sure that we are a open, safe environment for everybody. I don't want parents to think, well, just because my child's autistic, we can't do martial arts. I never want I

Michelle Hayes 1:00:52
I want

Sydney Brackins 1:00:52
want

Michelle Hayes 1:00:52
to

Sydney Brackins 1:00:52
to

Michelle Hayes 1:00:52
bring

Sydney Brackins 1:00:52
break

Michelle Hayes 1:00:52
that.

Sydney Brackins 1:00:52
that stigma.

Rich Bennett 1:00:54
Thank you.

Sydney Brackins 1:00:54
And so.

Michelle Hayes 1:00:55
Yeah, absolutely.

Sydney Brackins 1:00:56
Yeah,

Michelle Hayes 1:00:56
That's.

Sydney Brackins 1:00:56
of course, because from my experience, they are more than capable. I

Rich Bennett 1:01:01
Mm hmm.

Sydney Brackins 1:01:01
just think people don't give them the time of day

Rich Bennett 1:01:02
Exactly.

Sydney Brackins 1:01:03
and they have this, I think where a lot of I'll just talk about martial arts, why a lot of martial arts schools where they fail is they hear a mom say, Oh, I'm interested in martial arts, my autistic daughter. And they're like, Yeah, we're full because they just don't want to deal with it.

Michelle Hayes 1:01:18
Right.

Sydney Brackins 1:01:18
Right. And I don't do that at all. So Mom told me, sons autistic on the spectrum. But he also has

oppositional defiant disorder.

On a form.

Michelle Hayes 1:01:31
We have to fill out. We

Sydney Brackins 1:01:32
We ask,

Michelle Hayes 1:01:32
ask

Sydney Brackins 1:01:32
you know, to agree

Michelle Hayes 1:01:33
for your

Sydney Brackins 1:01:34
or disagree,

Michelle Hayes 1:01:34
disagreement.

Sydney Brackins 1:01:34
statements like My child is what we have to home my child child's.

Michelle Hayes 1:01:36
Speaking to school.

Sydney Brackins 1:01:37
Cool. My child's a leader, child.

Right.

Michelle Hayes 1:01:43
Each

Sydney Brackins 1:01:43
And

Michelle Hayes 1:01:44
and

Sydney Brackins 1:01:45
when

Michelle Hayes 1:01:45
every

Sydney Brackins 1:01:45
everything.

Michelle Hayes 1:01:45
single response is a great.

Sydney Brackins 1:01:49
I'm like, I don't know if I'm about to.

Michelle Hayes 1:01:51
Be like

Sydney Brackins 1:01:51
The

Michelle Hayes 1:01:51
the

Sydney Brackins 1:01:51
devil

Michelle Hayes 1:01:51
devil

Sydney Brackins 1:01:52
have.

Michelle Hayes 1:01:52
himself or.

Sydney Brackins 1:01:53
What's going on. So.

Michelle Hayes 1:01:54
So

you.

Sydney Brackins 1:01:58
He's not. Respectful to me. But I can tell this kid has nowhere to channel his energy. He's just a.

Michelle Hayes 1:02:07
And he.

Sydney Brackins 1:02:09
He needs. He needs people that give him.

Michelle Hayes 1:02:12
Grace.

Sydney Brackins 1:02:13
And that.

Michelle Hayes 1:02:15
Is there a way?

Sydney Brackins 1:02:18
And I. A lot of the

Michelle Hayes 1:02:21
Nothing.

Sydney Brackins 1:02:23
he's not doing it on any sport.

Michelle Hayes 1:02:25
Sports writing is

Sydney Brackins 1:02:27
has no

Michelle Hayes 1:02:27
no way to express

Sydney Brackins 1:02:28
expressive.

Michelle Hayes 1:02:29
himself. But that also comes from the autism. No one is willing to take that time

Sydney Brackins 1:02:34
Exactly.

Michelle Hayes 1:02:35
and give him a chance. Yeah. Yeah. So.

Sydney Brackins 1:02:40
But the other thing, like, I

Michelle Hayes 1:02:41

Sydney Brackins 1:02:42
see

Michelle Hayes 1:02:42
see.

Sydney Brackins 1:02:42
that.

Michelle Hayes 1:02:45
I keep.

Sydney Brackins 1:02:50
But.

Michelle Hayes 1:02:51
I noticed that.

Sydney Brackins 1:02:51
That this

Michelle Hayes 1:02:52
Any time

Sydney Brackins 1:02:53
if I

Michelle Hayes 1:02:53

Sydney Brackins 1:02:53
do start

Michelle Hayes 1:02:56
tried to speak

Sydney Brackins 1:02:57
to

Michelle Hayes 1:02:57
to

Sydney Brackins 1:02:57
him.

Michelle Hayes 1:02:57
him and.

Sydney Brackins 1:02:59
Is like, just kind of like, flopping around. I'll be like, attention. He immediately goes to attention. So, like, there's no issue.

Michelle Hayes 1:03:06
When it comes to corruption.

Rich Bennett 1:03:09
That's good. Yeah.

Michelle Hayes 1:03:10
And

Sydney Brackins 1:03:10
So

Michelle Hayes 1:03:10
so

Sydney Brackins 1:03:11
I.

Michelle Hayes 1:03:11
I said, okay.

Sydney Brackins 1:03:14
I definitely see the areas we need to work.

Michelle Hayes 1:03:16
But I also see such.

Sydney Brackins 1:03:17
Strengths. So I think our next step is to trigger class.

Michelle Hayes 1:03:23
So

Sydney Brackins 1:03:23
Yep.

Michelle Hayes 1:03:24
they just.

Rich Bennett 1:03:25
Those of you listening,

Michelle Hayes 1:03:26
This

Rich Bennett 1:03:26
this

Michelle Hayes 1:03:26
is

Rich Bennett 1:03:26
is

Michelle Hayes 1:03:26
very

Rich Bennett 1:03:26
very.

Michelle Hayes 1:03:27
important because a lot of people. You said you saw

Rich Bennett 1:03:33
And

Michelle Hayes 1:03:33

Rich Bennett 1:03:33
a lot

Michelle Hayes 1:03:33
lot

Rich Bennett 1:03:33
of.

Michelle Hayes 1:03:33
of people when it comes to.

Rich Bennett 1:03:34
To not just kids, but people spend.

Michelle Hayes 1:03:36
Special page.

Rich Bennett 1:03:38
They don't look.

Michelle Hayes 1:03:39
You know.

Rich Bennett 1:03:40
Strange because right away they just think are new.

Michelle Hayes 1:03:43
Right.

I just want.

Sydney Brackins 1:03:53
Of my instructors after.

Michelle Hayes 1:03:55
Someone's first class is.

Sydney Brackins 1:03:57
It's your opinion.

In that age bracket, Right? And my. My two instructors go. About this one. And I was like, Why?

Michelle Hayes 1:04:10
Just the place.

Sydney Brackins 1:04:11
Yes. I said I was like, here's

Michelle Hayes 1:04:14
My experience

Sydney Brackins 1:04:15
experienced

Michelle Hayes 1:04:15
during

Sydney Brackins 1:04:15
or.

Michelle Hayes 1:04:15
the war.

Sydney Brackins 1:04:17
Shocked that you experienced that. But I.

Michelle Hayes 1:04:21
Did.

Sydney Brackins 1:04:22
And don't be afraid to be hard on. Cause he upped

Michelle Hayes 1:04:26
Interesting what you're saying, what you expect.

Sydney Brackins 1:04:29
so

Michelle Hayes 1:04:29
So

Sydney Brackins 1:04:31
and I

Michelle Hayes 1:04:32
I think

Sydney Brackins 1:04:32
think we're.

Michelle Hayes 1:04:32
we're going to see.

Sydney Brackins 1:04:35
After the first week leading into the second week, Bob came up to me and said,

I don't know what you got.

Michelle Hayes 1:04:42
Doing different.

Sydney Brackins 1:04:43
But my son's a totally different kid, and.

Rich Bennett 1:04:47
For the better.

Sydney Brackins 1:04:48
Yes. Yeah, I've. And

Michelle Hayes 1:04:50
That's very important

Sydney Brackins 1:04:51
we

Michelle Hayes 1:04:51
to say.

Sydney Brackins 1:04:52
also see

Michelle Hayes 1:04:54
So

Sydney Brackins 1:04:54
now

Michelle Hayes 1:04:54
now

Sydney Brackins 1:04:55
I.

Michelle Hayes 1:04:55
I want

Sydney Brackins 1:04:56
One

Michelle Hayes 1:04:56
to.

Sydney Brackins 1:04:57
of my one of those to me an update and

Michelle Hayes 1:05:01
And

Sydney Brackins 1:05:01
they

Michelle Hayes 1:05:01
they

Sydney Brackins 1:05:01
go.

Michelle Hayes 1:05:01
go, Yeah.

Sydney Brackins 1:05:02
He's fine now. He follows

Michelle Hayes 1:05:04
It's almost like he's

Sydney Brackins 1:05:07
being

Michelle Hayes 1:05:07
being

Sydney Brackins 1:05:07

Michelle Hayes 1:05:07

Sydney Brackins 1:05:07
rock

Michelle Hayes 1:05:07
rock

Sydney Brackins 1:05:08
star.

Michelle Hayes 1:05:08
star.

Sydney Brackins 1:05:08
And he's and so

Michelle Hayes 1:05:10
I see him. I always say

he was

Sydney Brackins 1:05:17
all

Michelle Hayes 1:05:17
all.

Sydney Brackins 1:05:18
over the. Like. Like he was trying to run.

Michelle Hayes 1:05:21
He

Sydney Brackins 1:05:21
He

Michelle Hayes 1:05:21
was.

Sydney Brackins 1:05:21
was trying to open doors like.

Michelle Hayes 1:05:23
The

Sydney Brackins 1:05:23
The

Michelle Hayes 1:05:23
world

Sydney Brackins 1:05:24
world

Michelle Hayes 1:05:24
was

Sydney Brackins 1:05:24
was his

Michelle Hayes 1:05:24
his

Sydney Brackins 1:05:24
oyster.

Michelle Hayes 1:05:24
oyster.

Sydney Brackins 1:05:24
Right? Now

Michelle Hayes 1:05:25
Now

Sydney Brackins 1:05:26
he

Michelle Hayes 1:05:26
he sits

Sydney Brackins 1:05:26
sits.

Michelle Hayes 1:05:26
perfectly still.

Sydney Brackins 1:05:27
Chair. Watch. This class is extremely respectful. So instead of just interrupting. Tap on the shore and be like, Excuse me. So just night and day.

Michelle Hayes 1:05:37
Wow.

Sydney Brackins 1:05:40
Again it.

Michelle Hayes 1:05:42
One.

Sydney Brackins 1:05:43
opportunity.

Michelle Hayes 1:05:46
To.

Sydney Brackins 1:05:46
So knowing that even if you have a child on the spectrum, they're not stupid.

Rich Bennett 1:05:51
Right.

Michelle Hayes 1:05:52
Fully capable human beings. The kids know when

Sydney Brackins 1:05:56
When

Michelle Hayes 1:05:56
your

Sydney Brackins 1:05:56
you're babying

Michelle Hayes 1:05:57
baby.

Sydney Brackins 1:05:57
them and it from. Then.

Rich Bennett 1:06:01
Yeah. They and there's.

Michelle Hayes 1:06:04
Care to you.

Sydney Brackins 1:06:09
A we're giving him sensors

Michelle Hayes 1:06:12
Responsibility.

Sydney Brackins 1:06:12
sponsored. Accountability. And when he is able to meet

Michelle Hayes 1:06:17
Meet

Sydney Brackins 1:06:17
those

Michelle Hayes 1:06:17
those

Sydney Brackins 1:06:17
expectations.

Michelle Hayes 1:06:17
expectations. It makes him

Sydney Brackins 1:06:18
Him feel

Michelle Hayes 1:06:19
feel

Sydney Brackins 1:06:19
good

Michelle Hayes 1:06:19
good to.

Sydney Brackins 1:06:19
about himself because we're not treating.

Michelle Hayes 1:06:22
Disappointing isn't.

Sydney Brackins 1:06:23
On the spectrum. Both are health

Michelle Hayes 1:06:25
The standard phrase

Sydney Brackins 1:06:28
is

Michelle Hayes 1:06:29
for

Sydney Brackins 1:06:29
for it

Michelle Hayes 1:06:29
if

Sydney Brackins 1:06:29
if you

Michelle Hayes 1:06:29
you

Sydney Brackins 1:06:29
don't

Michelle Hayes 1:06:29
don't meet

Sydney Brackins 1:06:30
need

Michelle Hayes 1:06:30
that standard, we

Sydney Brackins 1:06:31
it. We take

Michelle Hayes 1:06:32
take the prescription route. Right

Sydney Brackins 1:06:34
now

Michelle Hayes 1:06:34
now, the

Sydney Brackins 1:06:34
the.

Michelle Hayes 1:06:35
adults are.

Sydney Brackins 1:06:38
have had a mother and son in the.

Michelle Hayes 1:06:40
Real.

Sydney Brackins 1:06:40
For a little over a year now. And son is on.

Michelle Hayes 1:06:46
He's.

Sydney Brackins 1:06:47
He's.

Michelle Hayes 1:06:49
Team.

Sydney Brackins 1:06:50
But.

Michelle Hayes 1:06:51
In terms of like

Sydney Brackins 1:06:51
Like mental

Michelle Hayes 1:06:52
mental.

Sydney Brackins 1:06:53
age. I would say 15, 16.

Rich Bennett 1:06:56
Okay.

Michelle Hayes 1:06:56
Um.

Sydney Brackins 1:06:57
And he's a good kid, like. A got together

Michelle Hayes 1:07:01
And we have to separate.

Sydney Brackins 1:07:02
and

Michelle Hayes 1:07:02
And

Sydney Brackins 1:07:03
we

Michelle Hayes 1:07:03
we

Sydney Brackins 1:07:03
do

Michelle Hayes 1:07:03
do

Sydney Brackins 1:07:03
this.

Michelle Hayes 1:07:03
this with two

Sydney Brackins 1:07:05
Separate

Michelle Hayes 1:07:05
separate.

Sydney Brackins 1:07:05
from it. Got programs,

Michelle Hayes 1:07:06
Programs,

Sydney Brackins 1:07:06
right?

Michelle Hayes 1:07:06
right? We have

Sydney Brackins 1:07:07

Michelle Hayes 1:07:07
a foundation

Sydney Brackins 1:07:07
foundation.

Michelle Hayes 1:07:08
that anticipates.

Sydney Brackins 1:07:09
Everyone starts and foundation. As you say. Well, I want to learn more. I want to not only learn more, but I want to get a little more aggressive. Then you go.

Michelle Hayes 1:07:20
Doing

Sydney Brackins 1:07:21
And

Michelle Hayes 1:07:21
it

Sydney Brackins 1:07:21
it's

Michelle Hayes 1:07:21
is

Sydney Brackins 1:07:21
how

Michelle Hayes 1:07:21
how we

Sydney Brackins 1:07:21
we make

Michelle Hayes 1:07:21
make sure

Sydney Brackins 1:07:21
sure.

Michelle Hayes 1:07:22
that the teaching staff.

Sydney Brackins 1:07:23
Style is. One.

Michelle Hayes 1:07:25
Because.

Sydney Brackins 1:07:26
There's so. My God. I mean, we do sparring. We do. And

Michelle Hayes 1:07:30
And so

Sydney Brackins 1:07:30
so. I want to make sure the

Michelle Hayes 1:07:32
people

Sydney Brackins 1:07:32
people who

Michelle Hayes 1:07:32
who

Sydney Brackins 1:07:32
want

Michelle Hayes 1:07:32
once

Sydney Brackins 1:07:33
sparring grapple

Michelle Hayes 1:07:33
got

Sydney Brackins 1:07:33
get

Michelle Hayes 1:07:34
the

Sydney Brackins 1:07:34
the

Michelle Hayes 1:07:34
opportunity.

Sydney Brackins 1:07:34
opportunity to do that. But.

Michelle Hayes 1:07:35
But those I don't.

Sydney Brackins 1:07:37
Those out there, they get the foundation

Michelle Hayes 1:07:39
So

Sydney Brackins 1:07:40
they're

Michelle Hayes 1:07:40
their investigations.

Sydney Brackins 1:07:40
in.

And. The they were in foundation

Michelle Hayes 1:07:46
Patients

Sydney Brackins 1:07:46
for

Michelle Hayes 1:07:46
are lonely

Sydney Brackins 1:07:46
longer people.

Michelle Hayes 1:07:47
people because of the sun. Right. Right.

Sydney Brackins 1:07:53
Mom would become know the son when

Michelle Hayes 1:07:56
But

Sydney Brackins 1:07:57
The

Michelle Hayes 1:07:57
the.

Sydney Brackins 1:07:57
mom is like one of my. Stars. She

Michelle Hayes 1:07:59
She

Sydney Brackins 1:08:00
is

Michelle Hayes 1:08:00
is

Sydney Brackins 1:08:00
awesome. Like I any time I'm

Michelle Hayes 1:08:02
teaching

Sydney Brackins 1:08:02
teaching a

Michelle Hayes 1:08:03

Sydney Brackins 1:08:03
foundations

Michelle Hayes 1:08:03
foundation.

Sydney Brackins 1:08:03
class, I know I can call on her and she's

Michelle Hayes 1:08:05
He's

Sydney Brackins 1:08:05
going

Michelle Hayes 1:08:05
going

Sydney Brackins 1:08:05
to

Michelle Hayes 1:08:06
to

Sydney Brackins 1:08:06
be

Michelle Hayes 1:08:06
be

Sydney Brackins 1:08:06
my

Michelle Hayes 1:08:06
my

Sydney Brackins 1:08:06
partner.

Michelle Hayes 1:08:06
partner just to. So I wanted to recommend to

Sydney Brackins 1:08:12
To advance

Michelle Hayes 1:08:13
advance because I think she's a great person. Feels like

Sydney Brackins 1:08:18
where to learn.

Michelle Hayes 1:08:21
she is good because I can tell she's

Sydney Brackins 1:08:24
And

Michelle Hayes 1:08:24
kind of

Sydney Brackins 1:08:24
I've reached

Michelle Hayes 1:08:24
reached

Sydney Brackins 1:08:25
her.

Michelle Hayes 1:08:25
her.

Sydney Brackins 1:08:26
Max.

Michelle Hayes 1:08:28
It is.

Sydney Brackins 1:08:34
I just didn't think they'd be fair.

So that was for

Michelle Hayes 1:08:39
Yeah, I think

Sydney Brackins 1:08:42
this last.

Michelle Hayes 1:08:43
so. Three weeks ago.

Sydney Brackins 1:08:46
I took

Michelle Hayes 1:08:48
The press.

Sydney Brackins 1:08:50
What?

Rich Bennett 1:08:53
Oh, wow.

Sydney Brackins 1:08:54
The son went from

Michelle Hayes 1:08:54
From

Sydney Brackins 1:08:55
being

Michelle Hayes 1:08:55
being

Sydney Brackins 1:08:55

Michelle Hayes 1:08:55

Sydney Brackins 1:08:55
kid,

Michelle Hayes 1:08:55
kid

Sydney Brackins 1:08:56

Michelle Hayes 1:08:56
teenager,

Sydney Brackins 1:08:56
teenager. I

Michelle Hayes 1:08:57

Sydney Brackins 1:08:57
should.

Michelle Hayes 1:08:57
should say.

Sydney Brackins 1:08:58
Who? You know, I'd be like, All right, everyone sit ups. And he'd like, just lay there. But now he's really

Michelle Hayes 1:09:05
He focused

Sydney Brackins 1:09:06
fast

Michelle Hayes 1:09:06
like

Sydney Brackins 1:09:07
and

Michelle Hayes 1:09:07
anything

Sydney Brackins 1:09:08
he's on

Michelle Hayes 1:09:08
on

Sydney Brackins 1:09:08
it and he

Michelle Hayes 1:09:10
you.

Sydney Brackins 1:09:12
and

Michelle Hayes 1:09:12
And

Sydney Brackins 1:09:12

Michelle Hayes 1:09:12

Sydney Brackins 1:09:12
don't.

Michelle Hayes 1:09:12
don't know. You just

Sydney Brackins 1:09:13
She wants

Michelle Hayes 1:09:13
want.

Sydney Brackins 1:09:13
to get it over with. Or. Or if that's because. But he seems baited.

Michelle Hayes 1:09:18
It

Rich Bennett 1:09:18
It could

Michelle Hayes 1:09:18
could

Rich Bennett 1:09:18
be

Michelle Hayes 1:09:18
be.

Rich Bennett 1:09:19
also that

Michelle Hayes 1:09:19
He sees

Rich Bennett 1:09:20
how

Michelle Hayes 1:09:20
how

Rich Bennett 1:09:20
well

Michelle Hayes 1:09:20
well

Rich Bennett 1:09:21
his

Michelle Hayes 1:09:21
his

Rich Bennett 1:09:21
mom's

Michelle Hayes 1:09:21
mom's

Rich Bennett 1:09:21
doing.

Michelle Hayes 1:09:21
doing. He wants to be just like her.

Sydney Brackins 1:09:23
I would absolutely.

Michelle Hayes 1:09:25
I think I might. I

Sydney Brackins 1:09:26

Michelle Hayes 1:09:27
think

Sydney Brackins 1:09:27
think.

Michelle Hayes 1:09:27
that maybe it's.

Sydney Brackins 1:09:29
I.

Michelle Hayes 1:09:31

Sydney Brackins 1:09:31

Michelle Hayes 1:09:31
noticed

Sydney Brackins 1:09:31
noticed I.

Michelle Hayes 1:09:32
the

phrase for thinking be awesome,

which is really good

information.

Sydney Brackins 1:09:43
I gave

Michelle Hayes 1:09:43
Gave

Sydney Brackins 1:09:44
them

Michelle Hayes 1:09:44
them recommendations

Sydney Brackins 1:09:44
four

Michelle Hayes 1:09:45
for advance

Sydney Brackins 1:09:45
advanced and then last.

Michelle Hayes 1:09:47
life.

Now are.

Rich Bennett 1:09:52
B.A. in health.

Michelle Hayes 1:09:54
No,

no. Things like this.

Sydney Brackins 1:09:58
That's a good question.

Rich Bennett 1:09:59
That's why Lewis isn't there as much.

Michelle Hayes 1:10:00
That's

Rich Bennett 1:10:01
Right.

Michelle Hayes 1:10:01
right.

Obviously like

Sydney Brackins 1:10:05
Now.

Michelle Hayes 1:10:07
doing this. I don't much more. Right.

But. And it's not

Sydney Brackins 1:10:15
That

Michelle Hayes 1:10:15
that

Sydney Brackins 1:10:16
I'm.

Michelle Hayes 1:10:16
I'm infested. It's

Sydney Brackins 1:10:18
It's.

Michelle Hayes 1:10:18
just.

Sydney Brackins 1:10:19
There's there's so much

Michelle Hayes 1:10:20
Much more

Sydney Brackins 1:10:20
more.

Michelle Hayes 1:10:21
now.

Sydney Brackins 1:10:22
Good thing there's.

Michelle Hayes 1:10:23
Because are so many more

cases of.

Sydney Brackins 1:10:29
That I'm getting accustomed to it.

Michelle Hayes 1:10:32
Doesn't make anyone.

Sydney Brackins 1:10:33
One each. Less special.

Michelle Hayes 1:10:34
So

Sydney Brackins 1:10:35
It's

Michelle Hayes 1:10:35
it's just.

Sydney Brackins 1:10:35
just now it's not a shock to my emotions anymore.

Rich Bennett 1:10:37
Right.

Sydney Brackins 1:10:38
I'm like,

Michelle Hayes 1:10:39
This will.

Sydney Brackins 1:10:39
we do normal. Yeah. Before anybody who graduated, I'd be like a blubbering mess.

Michelle Hayes 1:10:48
I think the last time.

Sydney Brackins 1:10:53
We had a student this another like very feel good.

So since day Lewis has always had reservations about.

Michelle Hayes 1:11:03
About one student.

Sydney Brackins 1:11:04
Right. And because the

Michelle Hayes 1:11:06
student.

Sydney Brackins 1:11:06
student and so since he Lewis

Michelle Hayes 1:11:08
And

Sydney Brackins 1:11:08
isn't

Michelle Hayes 1:11:08
in

Sydney Brackins 1:11:08
in the

Michelle Hayes 1:11:09
this

Sydney Brackins 1:11:09
student time

Michelle Hayes 1:11:09
time

Sydney Brackins 1:11:09
like

Michelle Hayes 1:11:10
he's

Sydney Brackins 1:11:10
he's

Michelle Hayes 1:11:10

Sydney Brackins 1:11:10

Michelle Hayes 1:11:10
very

Sydney Brackins 1:11:10
very.

Michelle Hayes 1:11:10
he's

Sydney Brackins 1:11:11
He's

Michelle Hayes 1:11:11
got.

Sydney Brackins 1:11:11
got his other ventures like.

Right. So

Michelle Hayes 1:11:17
Just.

Sydney Brackins 1:11:17
busy right. And so any time he

Michelle Hayes 1:11:20
In the studio,

Sydney Brackins 1:11:21
go

Michelle Hayes 1:11:22
he would always catch

Sydney Brackins 1:11:23
the

Michelle Hayes 1:11:23
the

Sydney Brackins 1:11:23
back.

Michelle Hayes 1:11:24
eye of the student.

Sydney Brackins 1:11:25
This student, I think.

Michelle Hayes 1:11:26
It was one of our toughest cases

Sydney Brackins 1:11:27
Faces

Michelle Hayes 1:11:27
in

Sydney Brackins 1:11:27
in

Michelle Hayes 1:11:27
terms.

Sydney Brackins 1:11:27
terms of attitude.

Rich Bennett 1:11:30
Go ahead.

Sydney Brackins 1:11:31
Okay. And so. But I, on the other hand, have worked with a student

Michelle Hayes 1:11:37
So he's

Sydney Brackins 1:11:38
in

Michelle Hayes 1:11:38
been

Sydney Brackins 1:11:39

Michelle Hayes 1:11:39
a student

Sydney Brackins 1:11:39
studio.

Michelle Hayes 1:11:39
for four years now. He has.

Sydney Brackins 1:11:45
Like I would always call

Michelle Hayes 1:11:46
Tell

Sydney Brackins 1:11:46
my

Michelle Hayes 1:11:46
me,

Sydney Brackins 1:11:46
life,

Michelle Hayes 1:11:46
like,

Sydney Brackins 1:11:47
like, you know,

Michelle Hayes 1:11:48
what are

Sydney Brackins 1:11:49
are

Michelle Hayes 1:11:49
they

Sydney Brackins 1:11:49
they

Michelle Hayes 1:11:49
going?

Sydney Brackins 1:11:49
doing? Like any time I'm around. He's.

Michelle Hayes 1:11:53
He's been.

Sydney Brackins 1:11:55
I'm like,

Michelle Hayes 1:11:56
I understand

Sydney Brackins 1:11:56
understand. He can be, but trust me, like I'm around him every day. He's getting better. Just trust me.

Michelle Hayes 1:12:04
you

Sydney Brackins 1:12:04
And he would always rival me because,

Michelle Hayes 1:12:05
because.

Sydney Brackins 1:12:06
like, he would say, I'm being soft.

Michelle Hayes 1:12:08
You know.

Sydney Brackins 1:12:09
I should be, like, getting being hard on this.

Rich Bennett 1:12:12
But.

Sydney Brackins 1:12:12
And I said. Trust me, there's progress. Amen. And

Michelle Hayes 1:12:17
He

Sydney Brackins 1:12:17
he comes

Michelle Hayes 1:12:17
comes

Sydney Brackins 1:12:18
from

Michelle Hayes 1:12:18
up a

Sydney Brackins 1:12:18
a little

Michelle Hayes 1:12:18
little

Sydney Brackins 1:12:18
bit

Michelle Hayes 1:12:18
bit.

Sydney Brackins 1:12:18
of a split household, right?

He he takes medication for ADHD. So just he's he's got a lot

Michelle Hayes 1:12:25
Go.

Sydney Brackins 1:12:25
of stuff.

When he first started, there were so many instances of like my.

Michelle Hayes 1:12:32
I like to keep them about.

Sydney Brackins 1:12:34
Do I what

now? He is. He's got his youth first degree black belt. And when he got that, I cried. Because it was such.

There was so much. And then towards the end. There was so much pride of like I nurtured the.

Michelle Hayes 1:12:57
This person at this point.

Sydney Brackins 1:12:59
And now he he might.

Michelle Hayes 1:13:01
You know.

Sydney Brackins 1:13:03
Sometimes

Michelle Hayes 1:13:04
Same things when they

Sydney Brackins 1:13:04
come

Michelle Hayes 1:13:05
come out.

Sydney Brackins 1:13:05
off the leg,

Michelle Hayes 1:13:06
Like

Sydney Brackins 1:13:06
make

Michelle Hayes 1:13:06
make

Sydney Brackins 1:13:06
a.

Michelle Hayes 1:13:06
a joke.

Sydney Brackins 1:13:08
Right. But

Michelle Hayes 1:13:09
What

Sydney Brackins 1:13:10
I.

Michelle Hayes 1:13:10
I see is that he's now.

Sydney Brackins 1:13:14
I'm in the studio and he'll see a little four year old wearing a white

Michelle Hayes 1:13:19
Which

Sydney Brackins 1:13:19
jeans.

Michelle Hayes 1:13:20
means they

Sydney Brackins 1:13:20
They just.

Michelle Hayes 1:13:20

Rich Bennett 1:13:29
He wants to be a mentor.

Sydney Brackins 1:13:30
Yes. Yeah. And now he's at a point where he he's actually one of the. Shoto with me. He's at a point where

Michelle Hayes 1:13:40
So.

Sydney Brackins 1:13:40
though he will. Patience for people. He is the most proficient young student we have with.

Michelle Hayes 1:13:48
With what's called

Sydney Brackins 1:13:48
Thomas Geary. So that's

Michelle Hayes 1:13:50
using

Sydney Brackins 1:13:50
using a

Michelle Hayes 1:13:50
a lively.

Sydney Brackins 1:13:50
live blade to cut through mats.

Michelle Hayes 1:13:54
Below students.

Sydney Brackins 1:13:55
I can do what he does. And he's just turned into a really good kid. Like, really good kid.

Michelle Hayes 1:14:05
Yeah.

It's just a big moment for maybe.

Sydney Brackins 1:14:10
Because I didn't know.

Michelle Hayes 1:14:11
In their

Sydney Brackins 1:14:12
And he.

Michelle Hayes 1:14:13

Sydney Brackins 1:14:14
Persevered. And now he's just any time, Lewis says.

Michelle Hayes 1:14:19
He doesn't see that.

Sydney Brackins 1:14:20
More.

Rich Bennett 1:14:21
Right.

Sydney Brackins 1:14:21
He sees all the good things. So.

Rich Bennett 1:14:23

Told you I was.

Sydney Brackins 1:14:30
Not enough to compensate

Michelle Hayes 1:14:32
How

Sydney Brackins 1:14:32
for how many.

Michelle Hayes 1:14:32
many times, he says.

Sydney Brackins 1:14:34
Hey, I was right. So, Yeah. And it's just like he's he's funny because he'll call things. He'll be like. He'll be like, Oh, that person's going to do this or that

Michelle Hayes 1:14:45
I.

Sydney Brackins 1:14:46
or bad

Michelle Hayes 1:14:46
Right?

Sydney Brackins 1:14:47
is.

Michelle Hayes 1:14:47
Just like that, Right.

Sydney Brackins 1:14:49
I'll be like, No. And then they'll do it. I'm just like, You're right.

Michelle Hayes 1:14:59

Making my blood pressure.

Michelle Hayes 1:16:59
It's my job. What would you say to families who want to come just to see what's going on? Like an open house situation? Do you have any of those scheduled? What's the best way to do that?

Sydney Brackins 1:17:09
We have an open. So anyone at any point.

Michelle Hayes 1:17:30
Interested in you. Interested

Years.

Sydney Brackins 1:17:35
