Wendy and I have the pleasure of sitting here today. We have a young lady that my sister actually introduced us to or introduced me to. She is the president of Bennett's adventures and events. No relation, I think.
Jill Bennett 0:16
Now.
Rich Bennett 0:16
That we know of.
Jill Bennett 0:17
that we know.
Rich Bennett 0:18
Yeah. Okay. So I have Jill Bennett here, and I'm sure you've heard of. Well, those of you here may have heard of some of the or of the haunted attraction she has, which is Bennett's curse, which has been around since I lost track when we were talking before. When did it start? Originally.
Jill Bennett 0:37
2001, it started.
Wendy Beck 0:39
Oh, wow.
Jill Bennett 0:40
24 years.
Wendy Beck 0:41
Oh, my gosh.
Jill Bennett 0:42
It's been a long time.
Rich Bennett 0:43
24 years. So obviously you started this when you were a teen.
Jill Bennett 0:51
Sure. Yeah.
Rich Bennett 0:53
So first of all, how are you doing, Jill?
Jill Bennett 0:55
Thank you. I appreciate you guys having me on. I'm excited to be here today and.
Rich Bennett 0:59
Oh, my pleasure.
Jill Bennett 1:00
Yeah. My pleasure as well.
Rich Bennett 1:01
I I've always every year I've always heard of Bennett's curse and it never fails. Everybody always asked me if we're related. The funny thing is, you guys used to have a billboard. I don't know if Robin told you this or not. Used to have a billboard in place. Ki Highway in Aberdeen. Right next to Robyn's ex is.
Jill Bennett 1:22
not know that.
Rich Bennett 1:23
Oh, shit. Oh, yeah. And he's like, Why? Really? I think you're doing this over.
Jill Bennett 1:28
Bennett's curve.
Rich Bennett 1:30
Oh,
Wendy Beck 1:30
That's fine.
Rich Bennett 1:31
yeah. Yeah. So but I didn't realize you guys have been around since 2001.
Jill Bennett 1:35
Yeah. Yeah.
Wendy Beck 1:36
What? What made you start this? I'm curious.
Jill Bennett 1:39
Yeah. So I moved. I moved down here out of college and I was working at University of Maryland, and that's where I met my husband.
Rich Bennett 1:47
It moved down here. From where?
Jill Bennett 1:48
From Pennsylvania.
Rich Bennett 1:49
Okay.
Jill Bennett 1:49
So I'm from northeastern Pennsylvania.
Rich Bennett 1:52
Okay.
Jill Bennett 1:52
So when I moved down, I met my husband. And it's funny because I always said, I'm never going to date a guy from Baltimore. And I ended up marrying him.
Wendy Beck 2:01
What part of Pennsylvania?
Jill Bennett 2:03
Northeastern. So Wilkes-Barre, Scranton area.
Wendy Beck 2:04
Okay. Gotcha.
Rich Bennett 2:06
Wait a minute. Now I need to know. Why did you always say you would never do the guy for
Jill Bennett 2:11
I
Rich Bennett 2:11
ball?
Jill Bennett 2:11
don't know. It was just something that like, I'm like, Yeah, I'd never date a guy from Baltimore. Like, it's just like, I don't know, maybe it was. He wasn't good enough.
Wendy Beck 2:21
Okay.
Rich Bennett 2:21
So.
Jill Bennett 2:22
So anyway, we were I was working and he I was working in research in a lab and I was taking graduate courses and doing molecular biology and immunology. And he came in
Rich Bennett 2:34
Wow.
Jill Bennett 2:36
and he was like, Oh, you know, would you want to come to my haunted house? And he was actually volunteering at Huber's. And he comes in like with this big Grim Reaper costume, and I'm like, okay. And he gave me a flyer and he's like.
Rich Bennett 2:48
The first time you met him.
Jill Bennett 2:50
Yeah. Like, he. He was, like, advertising his haunted house. This is October, I. I started working in, like, August.
Rich Bennett 2:55
Okay.
Jill Bennett 2:56
So I was like, Oh, okay, well, we'll check out this haunted house. Unfortunately, we ended up not going to the one that he had advertised, but I did go with friends to another one here.
Rich Bennett 3:06
Oh
Jill Bennett 3:08
But anyway, I ended up taking over like the managerial duties of the lab, and he actually was in the core facility selling products to my lab. So he would come by and we started talking more. And one day he came to me and he was like dropping off products I ordered because they
Rich Bennett 3:26
would
Jill Bennett 3:26
would deliver
Rich Bennett 3:26
deliver
Jill Bennett 3:26
them
Rich Bennett 3:26
them
Jill Bennett 3:26
to the lab
Rich Bennett 3:27
right.
Jill Bennett 3:27
and I'd like sign off. I got them and he was like, Oh, so where are you from? He was like asking me all these questions. And he's like, So what do you want to do? Like, you know, really? And I'm like, I don't know. I think I wanna go to medical school or, you know, I'm taking some graduate courses.
Rich Bennett 3:39
Mm.
Jill Bennett 3:39
And he's like, No, you don't.
And it's funny, I like sat back in my chair and I was like, okay. I'm like, Well, what do you want to do? He said, I want to do a haunted house. And I'm like, But that's not a career. Like,
Rich Bennett 3:53
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 3:53
that's not that's like a hobby. That's like something that you do on the side.
Wendy Beck 3:56
Seasonal or.
Jill Bennett 3:57
Yeah. So it was really him. He's like the the brainchild or the master behind all this.
Wendy Beck 4:02
So he was doing it prior to you guys doing it together.
Jill Bennett 4:05
Yeah, he was volunteering.
Wendy Beck 4:06
Okay.
Jill Bennett 4:07
But he loves Halloween. He loves, like, masks and like he's a big mask collector.
Rich Bennett 4:12
But he can't be a year long thing to.
Jill Bennett 4:15
It can be.
Rich Bennett 4:15
Are some that do it year long.
Jill Bennett 4:17
Yeah, we do seasonal events now. So
Rich Bennett 4:19
Okay.
Jill Bennett 4:19
will we open for like Christmas? We do a Krampus Christmas or Valentine's veer. We did St Patrick's Day and people keep saying, Oh, you know, when are you going to Easter? We kind of like skipped over Easter, but we did a halfway to Halloween this past year, so people keep asking us to do more and more so.
Wendy Beck 4:38
What does it tell us about it? Because, I mean, I, I have not been to very many haunted attractions. My my kids have. And, you know, obviously the ladies in our houses love it. But like what? I know. I don't think I.
Rich Bennett 4:50
Are you afraid?
Wendy Beck 4:51
I've done a hayride. I don't know. I just. It's just not been my thing. I
Rich Bennett 4:55
Okay.
Wendy Beck 4:55
don't know. Not that I'm not against it or anything like that. But, you know, I'm sure that there's so much that goes into it.
Rich Bennett 5:00
I'm afraid of. I mean, not.
Wendy Beck 5:02
I don't like the jumping out kind of thing.
Rich Bennett 5:04
Well, I've.
Wendy Beck 5:05
Do you remember?
Rich Bennett 5:05
Holly before. That's why I'm nervous about going to these.
Wendy Beck 5:08
Because you what?
Rich Bennett 5:09
So my jump scared me and I turned around as a marine and B, I just. Instant reaction. I just turned.
Wendy Beck 5:15
Well, do you remember the haunted house in Ocean City called, like Morbid Manor or something
Rich Bennett 5:19
No.
Wendy Beck 5:20
like that? Do you remember that? Okay, well, I growing up, I was terrified of that because it was like rumored that people would chase you when all this kind
Rich Bennett 5:27
Right.
Wendy Beck 5:27
of stuff. So, like, early on, I was just like, No, I don't really think that's my thing. So that's probably why it's just,
Rich Bennett 5:33
See,
Wendy Beck 5:33
you
Rich Bennett 5:33
I
Wendy Beck 5:34
know.
Rich Bennett 5:34
like being on the other side, jumping out in scare beat.
Jill Bennett 5:36
Yeah, that's the totally different.
Rich Bennett 5:38
Yeah.
Wendy Beck 5:39
I'm sure. Yeah.
Rich Bennett 5:40
But it is kind of weird because we used to do them at night. Not the former right now, but it less is form. And we would sit in the cornfield. It's sometimes you're out there by yourself being in the cornfield at night by yourself. It's kind of creepy. I keep looking for Malachi or somebody.
Wendy Beck 5:57
Oh, God. Yeah.
Rich Bennett 5:59
Wendy, go ahead.
Wendy Beck 6:00
No, no, I'm just. I'm just asking because obviously, you're not the person that's jumping out on people.
Jill Bennett 6:05
No, I've done it.
Wendy Beck 6:06
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 6:06
I. But it's not my.
Wendy Beck 6:07
You're the brains behind the
Jill Bennett 6:09
I've
Wendy Beck 6:09
business.
Jill Bennett 6:09
kind of done every aspect of the job, you know, of the business. But I mean.
Rich Bennett 6:12
Makes sense. That way you can learn.
Jill Bennett 6:14
Yeah, you have to. I mean, even.
Wendy Beck 6:16
Cleaning out the.
Jill Bennett 6:16
Toilets. You know. But yeah, I think Bennett's curse were were known for so many things. We've been around a while. Nationally, we're known. We're on a lot of top ten
Rich Bennett 6:25
Mm.
Jill Bennett 6:25
lists nationally. We just got on like the top 13 on at attractions in the country. So we're on that
Wendy Beck 6:29
Wow.
Jill Bennett 6:29
list.
Rich Bennett 6:30
Wow.
Jill Bennett 6:30
My husband's part of two groups wanted America and Americans, which are like the top wants in the country. But we were were very known for our theming. So our haunted attractions are themed. So each we have four attractions in each attract. Attraction has its own theme. So in those themes, we have our own characters, all of our stuff. Most of it is custom. So we have custom characters, costumes, masks. Alan Never just buy stuff off the shelf. Like if there's a mask available, he's going to have a different color. Color
Rich Bennett 7:02
Right.
Jill Bennett 7:02
and. You know, it's going to be different than what everyone else has. But we were very themed, so it's going to stick to a theme. When you come to our attractions, we really get you immersed in that theme.
Rich Bennett 7:13
Mm.
Jill Bennett 7:13
So it's funny because I'll even go through it and I'll be like, Wow. Like, I feel like I'm really here. Like, you forget where you're at and it's almost like you're taken out of reality into this themed environment.
Wendy Beck 7:24
Well, can you give us an example of a theme, you
Jill Bennett 7:25
Sure,
Wendy Beck 7:25
know.
Jill Bennett 7:26
sure, sure. So our main theme, or the House of the Demons, has been something that we've been going on since it started as like House of the Vampires, and it changed the underworld, But it's still the same theme. It's like demons versus vampires theme. So there's. Demons, vampires. You know, it's very medieval. So when you go through it, there's, you know, rock walls and there's archways and there's vampires and giant monsters and.
Rich Bennett 7:50
That could be fun.
Wendy Beck 7:52
Yeah, people. People love it. I mean,
Rich Bennett 7:54
Oh,
Wendy Beck 7:54
they
Rich Bennett 7:54
yeah.
Wendy Beck 7:54
honestly do the.
Jill Bennett 7:55
The Raven Brook Asylum is more of an asylum theme, and I'll be honest with
Wendy Beck 7:58
That is terrifying to
Jill Bennett 8:00
I
Wendy Beck 8:00
me.
Jill Bennett 8:00
was in there. We did a filming a couple of weeks ago. We flew up a couple videographers. They do theme park filming and we flew them out to do filming of our shot. And I was in there and it was late at night. It was we were there till like 1130 at night. And I'm walking through it and I'm telling you this, it's it's not even like a square feeling. It was like an uncomfortable scare. Feeling like.
Rich Bennett 8:20
What is this?
Jill Bennett 8:20
It's the asylum. It's called Raven Brook Asylum.
Rich Bennett 8:23
This is not a theme. This is a real place. You're telling me.
Jill Bennett 8:25
It's. No, it's in our haunted house.
Rich Bennett 8:27
Oh.
Jill Bennett 8:27
But when you're walking through it, you feel like you're in the asylum.
Wendy Beck 8:31
No.
Jill Bennett 8:31
But there's nurses and I it's funny, I posted a nurse on Instagram and it's gotten like 15,000 or what's so probably at 16,000 views. And it was just this little like photo camera thing I did and I'm like, I'm going to post it and she's in that asylum. But she freaked me out. I walked around the corner and it literally like it's and it's not even like a fear. It's like an uncomfortable fear. It's like, it like irks you, like from your core. That's
Rich Bennett 8:55
Wow.
Jill Bennett 8:55
kind of how I felt. And I said to Ellen, and I'm like, I cannot walk through there by myself because it just freaks me out like the way that he designs it and a lot of stuff you can't even, like, show on video because like, the TV crew is out
Rich Bennett 9:08
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 9:09
and he's like, Yeah, we can't show that on TV. Like, it's that.
Rich Bennett 9:13
That.
Jill Bennett 9:14
It's.
Rich Bennett 9:14
Be that gruesome or shocking.
Jill Bennett 9:15
It is, and I don't even want to describe it. I.
Wendy Beck 9:18
And now are there actors?
Jill Bennett 9:20
Yes.
Wendy Beck 9:20
Okay.
Jill Bennett 9:20
Yeah. There's all actors. We have about 50, I believe, on staff, like acting.
Rich Bennett 9:26
Wow.
Jill Bennett 9:27
Yeah. I mean, we've had up to a hundred, but.
It's it's we've had to cut back, obviously. You know, everything's going up. Everything.
Rich Bennett 9:36
Right.
Jill Bennett 9:37
Anymore. So we had to unfortunately cut back on employees, but we still have. We've designed it so over the years we've designed it so that you're getting the most amount of scare where our actors are scaring from multiple points. So we call them square boxes. This is kind of like where the actor hangs out, but they're made in a sense. It's it's so much about the design.
Rich Bennett 10:02
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 10:02
When you do on an office, it's so much about how is it designed. The lighting is super important. The music, it's this is all aspects of it.
Wendy Beck 10:09
It's a it's a theatrical production.
Rich Bennett 10:11
Oh, it is.
Wendy Beck 10:12
Yeah. I mean.
Jill Bennett 10:13
It really is.
Wendy Beck 10:13
Costumes and actors and set and I you know I guess you don't really think about how much time goes into creating all of that and and you guys are the ones that are created it's your it's your baby. It's.
Jill Bennett 10:26
Everything? Yep.
Wendy Beck 10:27
Theme. It's your, like, design for costumes and all of it.
Jill Bennett 10:32
Everything.
Wendy Beck 10:32
Wow.
Rich Bennett 10:33
So I guess schools like colleges probably love this because I don't know if you guys do this or not, but do you offer like internships for
Jill Bennett 10:42
Well,
Rich Bennett 10:42
people to do that?
Jill Bennett 10:43
and it's funny because that's why we we started our nonprofit.
Rich Bennett 10:46
Oh, okay.
Wendy Beck 10:47
Okay.
Jill Bennett 10:48
And that's kind of one of the reasons as we've we've actually had school groups come out. There was
Rich Bennett 10:52
Right.
Jill Bennett 10:52
a school in Glenelg and they were doing a haunted house. This is when we were in Jessup and they were like, You know, we'd really love to see how you guys operate because
Rich Bennett 10:58
Right.
Jill Bennett 10:58
we want to we want to do a haunted house at our school. So we brought like the whole student body of this. It was like a small business class.
Rich Bennett 11:04
Mm hmm.
Jill Bennett 11:05
And we kind of gave him a behind the scenes tour and. You know, there's over the years, there's so many people that want to have that. And we were like, we just don't. And it's always around Halloween.
Rich Bennett 11:15
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 11:16
So we don't have the staff or the time to do it. So unfortunately we can't offer that. So I said, Why don't we do something where we can offer?
Rich Bennett 11:24
Mhm.
Jill Bennett 11:24
So many people like a schoolmate. My one of the moms I was talking to, her son wants to go into special effects and like, she's going all these conventions. She's like, doll, he's he's like in high school now. I don't know what to do. Like, I don't even know, like, where are the schools? And I'm like, Well, I can tell you.
Rich Bennett 11:41
See us?
Jill Bennett 11:41
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 11:41
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 11:41
So, I mean, because my husband is so connected, he knows everyone. I mean,
Rich Bennett 11:45
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 11:45
he, like, talks people from Hollywood, like, at 3 a.m..
Rich Bennett 11:48
Wow.
Jill Bennett 11:49
You know, he has ideas and he's like these people that make silicone masks, like he knows them personally.
Wendy Beck 11:53
Right.
Jill Bennett 11:53
Like he actually helped start. I don't know if it was that I think it was that company, but he helped start one of the companies to becoming what it was today like. He gave them the concept to start the first mask and like he's been. So I'm like, Alan, you need to like charge for your your mind because.
Rich Bennett 12:07
Yeah,
Jill Bennett 12:08
He is so skilled, like all the companies that make props. He actually gives them ideas like,
Rich Bennett 12:13
you
Jill Bennett 12:13
You should
Rich Bennett 12:14
should do
Jill Bennett 12:14
do
Rich Bennett 12:14
that.
Jill Bennett 12:14
this or You should do this or you should.
Wendy Beck 12:16
Be a consultant.
Jill Bennett 12:17
Exactly. But we've been on like so-called Making Monsters on the Travel Channel. Creepy was was actually on it. This was back in 2013, I believe, 2013.
Rich Bennett 12:27
Okay.
Jill Bennett 12:27
But were they where they would make these giant monsters? Show how they make them? Install them, show the installation, and then actually come and see when the when the guests go through to see how they're getting scared. So it was really a cool show. So we were on it all three seasons with Bennett's Girls and Creepy Woods, and it was so much fun. It was like, I love doing it. I wish they would do it again.
Rich Bennett 12:47
Okay so I creepy woods back then was it still was it where Bennett's curse is now.
Jill Bennett 12:54
It was that it was that he was farm.
Rich Bennett 12:56
Oh, that's right.
Jill Bennett 12:57
Yeah, I was a few years.
Rich Bennett 12:58
Okay. Okay.
Jill Bennett 12:59
Yeah. And we're like, we wanted to bring it back, and it took us forever.
Rich Bennett 13:02
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 13:03
Like this long. I mean, to find a space to do this, to find a spot.
Rich Bennett 13:07
You got.
Jill Bennett 13:08
I mean, it was
Rich Bennett 13:09
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 13:09
that was in 2000.
Rich Bennett 13:11
This is before COVID, right?
Jill Bennett 13:13
13.
Rich Bennett 13:14
It was that long ago.
Jill Bennett 13:15
Yeah, because 14 is when we moved Bennet's.
Rich Bennett 13:17
How.
Jill Bennett 13:18
Yeah. So it's been a long time and we've been looking I mean, it's it hasn't like we've had conversations we've gotten we had to the point we were doing contracts and it's just like we know. Like what?
Rich Bennett 13:30
What it takes to.
Jill Bennett 13:31
To do this and when.
Wendy Beck 13:32
A lot.
Jill Bennett 13:33
Like, you know, because we're like, we. Farms and things like that, like it's just too expensive to buy.
Rich Bennett 13:39
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 13:39
But, you know, when people are like asking certain dollars, we just we know it's not going to work.
Rich Bennett 13:45
Right.
Jill Bennett 13:45
You know what I mean? Like, we kind of know, like, what we would need as far as budget to be able
Wendy Beck 13:48
And
Jill Bennett 13:48
to.
Wendy Beck 13:49
do you do this? This is like your full time job.
Jill Bennett 13:50
Yeah.
Wendy Beck 13:51
Okay. And obviously, there's a lot of storage you have. You need a lot of place, a big place to store all of this stuff.
Jill Bennett 14:00
I think nine trailers, tractor trailers.
Wendy Beck 14:03
Oh, wow.
Jill Bennett 14:03
Stuff. And.
Wendy Beck 14:04
Gosh.
Jill Bennett 14:05
Yeah, but I mean, we also have Bennet's Cursus, like 20,000 square feet, so that's like.
Wendy Beck 14:11
Where can I ask? Where is that?
Jill Bennett 14:13
It's at East Point, the East Point Mall.
Wendy Beck 14:14
Okay, so it's just in the mall.
Jill Bennett 14:16
It's inside
Wendy Beck 14:16
It's
Jill Bennett 14:17
the mall.
Wendy Beck 14:17
inside.
Jill Bennett 14:17
It was like an old DSW warehouse.
Wendy Beck 14:19
And is it. Is that is that up all year? Okay. So anybody could go there any time of the year.
Jill Bennett 14:25
So we're open for Halloween.
Rich Bennett 14:27
Halloween and
Jill Bennett 14:27
And
Rich Bennett 14:27
the.
Jill Bennett 14:27
then we'll open for seasonal events, which would be like maybe a Friday and Saturday night for that seasonal event. But we're not open like every night.
Wendy Beck 14:34
Got to.
Jill Bennett 14:34
It would just be too expensive to like, actually.
Wendy Beck 14:37
But you have that location.
Jill Bennett 14:39
We have it right. I mean, but, you know, we're always looking. You know, we're always looking for
Rich Bennett 14:43
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 14:43
something new. So.
Rich Bennett 14:46
I explained everybody had the new creepy words came about.
Jill Bennett 14:49
So I think a couple of years ago I said to Alan, we need to do something where we can give back
Rich Bennett 14:55
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 14:55
like we're so grateful because we can do what we love and we're so passionate about it. And I said, we need to do something that we can give back. And I know over the years there's been so many people that have contacted us. You know, a lot of youth that want to learn, like we want to learn how to just dress costumes. We want to learn how to do makeup. We want to learn how to do like latex, like whatever, you know, lighting, theater design, you know.
Rich Bennett 15:17
It's not a dying art.
Jill Bennett 15:18
No, it's not. It's actually
Rich Bennett 15:19
growing.
Jill Bennett 15:20
it's crazy when you're in the industry and you see how big it is.
Rich Bennett 15:23
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 15:24
And so,
Wendy Beck 15:25
Well, I mean, I would imagine, like you said, it's the film industry, the
Jill Bennett 15:30
yeah,
Wendy Beck 15:30
theater. Like
Jill Bennett 15:31
it
Wendy Beck 15:31
there's
Jill Bennett 15:31
is.
Wendy Beck 15:31
so much.
Jill Bennett 15:32
It is. And we're meeting people from those all those avenues like every.
Wendy Beck 15:36
Right.
Jill Bennett 15:36
Like videographers, photographers, like they're all you know, more and more people like the haunted industry is just exploding.
Rich Bennett 15:44
Mhm.
Jill Bennett 15:45
But I told Alan, I said, like, we need to do something. And it we kind of both agreed. We're like, Yeah. Like when we bring Creepy Woods back, that's what we're going to do. We're going to when we find it because we're just grateful. We're
Rich Bennett 15:55
Right.
Jill Bennett 15:55
just grateful that, that we could do what we love to do regardless of how hard it is. Because I think no matter what your career is, you have challenges.
Rich Bennett 16:04
Oh, yeah.
Jill Bennett 16:05
And he was like, All right, let's do it. So I like 2021. I think it was like right after that I actually opened Bennet's adventures and events with.
Rich Bennett 16:13
Okay.
Jill Bennett 16:14
With my attorney and.
Then we did the five one. We got our status in like 2022
Rich Bennett 16:21
Okay.
Jill Bennett 16:21
and we were we, we actually there was like a whole other spot because we got it, because we were working on a project that we were trying to get
a space. And that actually fell through. But that's a whole other story. Going to write a book on this one day.
Rich Bennett 16:36
I was going to ask you.
Wendy Beck 16:37
I mean, I feel like people would love it.
Jill Bennett 16:39
Things.
Wendy Beck 16:39
People love like, haunted, haunted stuff. I mean, even shows and stuff now are just, like, so popular.
Rich Bennett 16:46
Oh, yeah.
Jill Bennett 16:47
They are. They are more and more. I think it's because it's like, you know, you're safe. But you could still get scared. You can kind of get scared in a safe way, you know, Like I know we talked about how you like airplanes. You don't like to fly, you know.
Rich Bennett 17:01
But I'll go into a real haunted house in a heartbeat.
Jill Bennett 17:03
Yeah, because, you know, it's still safe, because you could still get scared, but it's in a safe way.
Rich Bennett 17:08
No, I'm not a real one.
Jill Bennett 17:09
Oh.
Rich Bennett 17:10
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 17:10
Oh, you'll go
Rich Bennett 17:11
Oh, paranormal investigations. I'm going.
Jill Bennett 17:14
Okay. I mean, it's fascinating. I.
Rich Bennett 17:16
It is.
Jill Bennett 17:16
I kind of like it myself.
Rich Bennett 17:17
I've always said one of the things I would love to do as a podcaster if I could, would be to sit here and interview a spirit that's trapped and then ask Why? Why are you here? Probably be freaked out by. But I just we actually did a recording here a couple of weeks ago and a guy brought in because I've had three or four.
Wendy Beck 17:44
I'm not sure.
Rich Bennett 17:44
Different people in here have always said they have sense the presence in the back of the building there. So one guy came and brought his spirit box. Have a listen to it. Don't know if we picked up anything. It's paramount. Older brother messing with me.
Jill Bennett 17:57
But this is all this building, so.
Rich Bennett 17:58
75.
Wendy Beck 18:00
Do you believe in?
Jill Bennett 18:01
Oh, absolutely.
Rich Bennett 18:02
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 18:03
Absolutely.
Wendy Beck 18:03
Well, I know, like.
Rich Bennett 18:04
Which I think would add to the fact when you run your own haunted.
Wendy Beck 18:07
Yeah, you kind of have to believe in it, but you also have like the, you know, different themes, which has different draws for different
Rich Bennett 18:16
Yeah.
Wendy Beck 18:17
people. Like to me, like an asylum is like, Oh my gosh, that is like frightening because. You know, that was a real thing.
Jill Bennett 18:24
Right.
Wendy Beck 18:25
And then you have your like, I don't know, let's say, you know, your clown masks and all that, like, yeah, whatever you want to call that kind of stuff, which is a no go for me. I don't. Now like I would.
Rich Bennett 18:37
What is it? Why are people afraid of clowns? I don't.
Wendy Beck 18:40
No, not necessarily clowns, but the whole like mask type of people with, like, chainsaws and all like. No.
Jill Bennett 18:49
It's funny because and that's what we're also known for, like kind of covering. Of all
Rich Bennett 18:53
Fears
Jill Bennett 18:53
fears and
Rich Bennett 18:53
that
Jill Bennett 18:53
phobias,
Rich Bennett 18:53
the.
Wendy Beck 18:54
Okay.
Jill Bennett 18:54
because like you said. Well, in an example, you said like, you know, you're not really like you don't go to haunted attractions. 25% of the population goes.
Wendy Beck 19:02
Right.
Jill Bennett 19:02
So you're not you're not you're in the majority.
Wendy Beck 19:04
Okay.
Jill Bennett 19:05
So 25%, you put four people in a room, one of them is going to be going.
Rich Bennett 19:08
Right.
Jill Bennett 19:08
So.
Wendy Beck 19:08
Right.
Jill Bennett 19:09
But as far as fears and phobias, you're right. Everybody's afraid of something. You just have to find out what it is.
Wendy Beck 19:15
Right.
Jill Bennett 19:16
So we're we're kind of known for like the other one. One of the attractions we do is it's Halloween 3-D, and it's like kind of about this, like Carver man who, like, kills like the little kids and carves them.
Wendy Beck 19:29
Right. Okay.
Jill Bennett 19:30
Like a butcher type guy.
Wendy Beck 19:31
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 19:31
You know, that's a 3-D attraction. But we we gear it to have different attractions to hopefully get to that person,
Rich Bennett 19:40
Right.
Jill Bennett 19:40
because not everything is going to scare everybody. Sometimes people just go because they want to laugh, because they want to laugh at the friend that scared
Wendy Beck 19:46
Right.
Jill Bennett 19:46
you.
Wendy Beck 19:47
Okay.
Jill Bennett 19:47
So we get all emotions to come out.
Wendy Beck 19:49
Okay.
Rich Bennett 19:51
The biggest thing that's going to scare me I shouldn't tell you is because you might.
Spiders. I don't like spiders.
Jill Bennett 19:58
We got a giant one.
Rich Bennett 20:00
Big spy. I used to have a pet tarantula. They don't bother me because you can see them.
Jill Bennett 20:04
Right.
Rich Bennett 20:05
It's the little.
Jill Bennett 20:06
Tiny ones.
Rich Bennett 20:07
Yeah. If you ever been bit by a spider. Yeah.
Wendy Beck 20:11
Well, yeah, I've seen.
Rich Bennett 20:11
I've been bitten twice by brown recluses like.
Wendy Beck 20:14
Okay, Well, I get I get that part.
Rich Bennett 20:16
Yeah.
Wendy Beck 20:17
But I'm not scared to, like, visually see that.
Jill Bennett 20:19
But I feel like when you're in a haunted house and you see a spider, you know it's not real.
Rich Bennett 20:24
It all depends. I don't know. You never know.
Jill Bennett 20:26
You know what I mean? Like, because, you know, you're in this haunted house. It's not real.
Rich Bennett 20:29
Yeah, but now with creepy ones, you're.
Jill Bennett 20:31
Well, that's a different story.
Wendy Beck 20:32
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 20:33
Be a real one in there. There will be a real one in there.
Rich Bennett 20:35
What?
Jill Bennett 20:36
There will be. Oh, yeah.
Rich Bennett 20:39
What you're talking about, Willis.
We.
Jill Bennett 20:43
You know, And the woods is super scary. It's just.
Wendy Beck 20:45
Yes. And like, that takes you back to the Blair Witch Project. Oh, my gosh. Being, like, scared, lost in the woods. And
Jill Bennett 20:52
Walk
Wendy Beck 20:52
there's.
Jill Bennett 20:52
in and you're like, stepping on.
Wendy Beck 20:53
To me, that's that's really scary.
Rich Bennett 20:57
Okay. You're ignoring the fact that she said there's going to be a real spider there.
Wendy Beck 21:01
Oh, no.
Jill Bennett 21:01
Maybe it's the woods. There's spiderwebs everywhere in there. I walk through there.
Rich Bennett 21:05
Oh, and it's in fall when they like to be outside, too. Oh.
Wendy Beck 21:11
Well, she she's going to hone in on your fear.
Rich Bennett 21:16
All right, Get back to how how have that bear?
Wendy Beck 21:20
The nonprofit.
Rich Bennett 21:21
Yeah that the nonprofit and how you guys are bringing creepy, creepy woods back. Okay,
Jill Bennett 21:26
So.
Rich Bennett 21:27
I'm thinking of spiders now. Really? Why do.
Jill Bennett 21:31
So we really want to be able to this is our first fundraiser. So the money that we're getting, we're definitely going to be donating. I'm already talking to our schools because, you know, one thing I noticed about schools because my kids are an elementary school, is I feel like the music and theater programs aren't like they used to be when we were young. I
Wendy Beck 21:47
I
Jill Bennett 21:47
mean.
Wendy Beck 21:47
mean.
Rich Bennett 21:48
I remember going to school.
Jill Bennett 21:48
School would have an awful music class. And they were teaching you.
Wendy Beck 21:50
Yup.
Jill Bennett 21:51
So, I mean, my school doesn't even have a piano.
Rich Bennett 21:53
What?
Jill Bennett 21:54
So I'm like, I would love for them to have a piano. I mean, we used to have them in every classroom when we were kids.
So we're talking to them. We they they did a really nice theater project last year, and I think they need a new speaker system in their.
Rich Bennett 22:08
Right.
Jill Bennett 22:08
So we're going to definitely be donating back to theatre and arts. We're also going to be offering workshops and seminars.
Wendy Beck 22:15
I love that.
Jill Bennett 22:15
And like I said, we're going to be bringing in people that do this professionally, to do these these workshops and seminars like we're not doing them. We can. But, you know, if you can get the best of the best.
Wendy Beck 22:26
Yes, absolutely.
Jill Bennett 22:27
And offer it to the community. Why not? You know who. Who does that?
Wendy Beck 22:30
So what what areas are you going to be benefiting like? Is it is it schools in Maryland? Is it Baltimore? Is it you know.
Jill Bennett 22:37
Yeah. I mean, I think we're going to try to stay in our community. We'll start there and then just broadly expand out. But anyone that would like to come, obviously you're welcome to come. I mean, we're not excluding anyone for.
Rich Bennett 22:48
Well, actually, we are the Luke. We know East Point, Mom.
Jill Bennett 22:50
Yeah. So creepy Woods. Yeah, Creepy Woods is in White Marsh.
Rich Bennett 22:54
Mm hmm.
Jill Bennett 22:55
It's off a Laura Lee Beach road.
Rich Bennett 22:57
Laurel Beach or.
Jill Bennett 22:58
It's right. Yeah, it's. It's almost like we're the Baltimore Harford County line meets. It is on a huge farm and it's.
Rich Bennett 23:05
Back by the water.
Jill Bennett 23:06
Absolutely beautiful. It's gorgeous. Like, it's just it's like a sense of peace and serenity when you get there.
Wendy Beck 23:11
When does it open?
Jill Bennett 23:13
October 4th, which is Friday.
Rich Bennett 23:15
I'm familiar with the farm. So is the house involved in it?
Jill Bennett 23:18
No, the house isn't involved.
Rich Bennett 23:20
All right. So you're not you're not by the goats and sheep.
Jill Bennett 23:22
We're going to be past the there's like a pond.
Rich Bennett 23:25
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 23:26
The house, the pond, and then past that, there's like a cutout area. That's where the midway is going to be,
Rich Bennett 23:31
Okay.
Jill Bennett 23:31
and it's going to be within the woods right there in the back there.
Yeah.
Wendy Beck 23:36
How long does it take to walk through?
Jill Bennett 23:37
We're going to estimate about a 30 minute walk. We haven't timed it yet because they're still like like this is like amazing, like a miracle because we basically it's like a two month setup for this thing.
Wendy Beck 23:48
Wow.
Jill Bennett 23:49
Two months and.
Rich Bennett 23:50
You've actually been back there that long.
Jill Bennett 23:52
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 23:52
How do you realize?
Jill Bennett 23:53
Yeah. Yeah.
Rich Bennett 23:55
Wow. Okay.
Jill Bennett 23:57
It's a lot, though. I mean, when you see it, I think people when you see it, it's kind of like you have to see it to believe it.
Rich Bennett 24:03
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 24:05
Because there's giant monsters in there.
Rich Bennett 24:08
Really?
Jill Bennett 24:09
Giant monsters.
Rich Bennett 24:10
I got to take a ride back there.
Jill Bennett 24:11
Yeah. Now you got to see it, right?
Rich Bennett 24:12
Yeah, because I. We drove back there not too long ago. But see, I went up to Junior's house.
Jill Bennett 24:20
You won't see anything if you go to the.
Rich Bennett 24:21
Yeah, apparently not.
Jill Bennett 24:23
But it's good because.
Rich Bennett 24:24
The goats and sheep. The
Jill Bennett 24:25
The community's
Rich Bennett 24:26
bees.
Jill Bennett 24:26
beautiful.
Rich Bennett 24:27
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 24:27
We want to keep it that way. And this is something that we're doing to benefit the community and the kids. And, you know, there's people that live in that area. So, you know, we want to be respectful of who lives there. So it's not, you know, you're not going to see it visibly. The farm is still going to look like a farm.
Rich Bennett 24:42
One other thing, too, and correct me if I'm wrong, but so if people want to go, they have to book their time in advance. Right.
Jill Bennett 24:49
We we were going to do a timeslot, but we decided to not do a timeslot because so many. The problem is with timeslot, sometimes people like they don't want to choose it. Like they're like, Oh, I don't know if I want to do it, because what if something happens? Like
Rich Bennett 25:03
Right.
Jill Bennett 25:03
people's schedules change the.
Wendy Beck 25:04
And what about, like, wait time to get in? Like, I'm just curious because
Jill Bennett 25:08
How
Wendy Beck 25:08
I.
Jill Bennett 25:08
long will it take? So it just depends on the night.
Wendy Beck 25:11
Okay.
Jill Bennett 25:11
And we offer three different tickets. So if you don't want to wait, you could just get a VIP ticket
Wendy Beck 25:16
Okay.
Jill Bennett 25:17
and then I'll take you right to the front of the line.
Wendy Beck 25:18
Gotcha.
Jill Bennett 25:20
If you want to do the speed pass, it's usually like with less than 30 minute wait. But as you get closer to Halloween and Saturday nights in particular are really going to be the busier of the nights.
Wendy Beck 25:28
Right. Makes sense.
Rich Bennett 25:30
Since there's a wait time, do you guys have, like, concession stand?
Jill Bennett 25:32
We do. We're going to have some food trucks, firepit. We'll have some photo opportunities so that you can kind of get photos.
Rich Bennett 25:39
Even if you're waiting, there's things to do.
Jill Bennett 25:41
Absolutely.
Rich Bennett 25:42
Okay.
Jill Bennett 25:42
Yeah. Yeah.
Rich Bennett 25:43
So we can just Wendy up as a spider and she could walk.
Wendy Beck 25:48
I would help out. I think it would be really cool if one.
Jill Bennett 25:51
It's fun. It's so much fun. It's like a family atmosphere, you know? We always loved Bennett's curse because it was always our family involved. You know, my husband's family, his brothers, my.
Wendy Beck 26:00
How do your kids, you know, relate and interact with?
Jill Bennett 26:03
Love it.
Wendy Beck 26:04
Do they?
Jill Bennett 26:04
Especially my 11 year old son. Yeah, definitely. Like, we're going to do a class trip with his his class this year. We were kind of waiting for them to get to the point. Last year, a couple of kids came down, you know, a couple of kids came and were like, All right, it's time to do it. But he loves it. Like he.
Wendy Beck 26:18
You have group rights.
Jill Bennett 26:19
We do.
Wendy Beck 26:19
Okay.
Jill Bennett 26:20
Yeah, they can contact us directly for that.
Rich Bennett 26:21
You. Are you going?
Wendy Beck 26:22
No, I'm going to see.
Rich Bennett 26:24
Down and go with them.
Jill Bennett 26:24
She's thinking about it.
Wendy Beck 26:26
Yeah, well, I'm going away on vacation, and so it has
Rich Bennett 26:29
We'll
Wendy Beck 26:29
to
Rich Bennett 26:30
be
Wendy Beck 26:30
be
Rich Bennett 26:30
back.
Wendy Beck 26:30
when I get back. But yeah, they, they're, they want me to go with them.
Rich Bennett 26:33
You should.
Jill Bennett 26:34
Yes, you have to. You need to
Rich Bennett 26:35
Just.
Jill Bennett 26:35
go.
Rich Bennett 26:36
You just need to let me know the night that you're going so that way. Because that way I
Wendy Beck 26:41
So
Rich Bennett 26:41
will.
Wendy Beck 26:41
what then? You can.
Rich Bennett 26:42
So I won't be there.
Wendy Beck 26:44
Oh, okay.
Rich Bennett 26:45
It jumps out and scares you. You'll probably think he me,
Wendy Beck 26:48
No,
Rich Bennett 26:49
but I
Wendy Beck 26:49
no.
Rich Bennett 26:49
won't.
Wendy Beck 26:49
But, you know, we have 20 plus. People that we do this every year at different locations. So we'll we'll definitely pick yours this
Jill Bennett 26:58
They'll
Wendy Beck 26:58
year.
Jill Bennett 26:58
love it. Thank
Wendy Beck 26:58
Yeah. Yeah. I'm excited for them to go because it sounds interesting.
Rich Bennett 27:02
I would try to get the members in the Lions Club to give us some form or to.
Jill Bennett 27:07
Oh, you'd be surprised who goes through.
Rich Bennett 27:09
No, but we have a memory. Scrooge, I love you. But it would take care if it's a 30 minute tour. It would take him 3 hours. He would be that Gilligan's Island went on a three hour tour. So.
Wendy Beck 27:20
I don't know. I mean, I've seen, you know, of course, kids go through these types of things, like I've dropped off at the different ones and, you know, people are into it.
Rich Bennett 27:31
Oh, yeah.
Wendy Beck 27:31
Into it.
Rich Bennett 27:33
All right, so with Creepy Woods, I know you guys are doing it in October, but is that going to be like Bennett's curse, too, where it's going to be? You're going to have different attractions there at the.
Jill Bennett 27:41
Now.
Rich Bennett 27:41
No.
Jill Bennett 27:42
This would just be for Halloween.
Rich Bennett 27:43
Okay.
Jill Bennett 27:44
Yeah. And it's
Rich Bennett 27:44
But
Jill Bennett 27:44
the.
Rich Bennett 27:44
you could be there next Halloween, too, right?
Jill Bennett 27:46
Yes, we
Rich Bennett 27:46
Okay,
Jill Bennett 27:46
would love to.
Rich Bennett 27:47
good.
Wendy Beck 27:47
Okay, That's cool.
Jill Bennett 27:48
13 nights a Halloween. That's what we're doing this.
Wendy Beck 27:50
Okay.
Jill Bennett 27:52
That's the 13 nights a Halloween.
Rich Bennett 27:55
That number is 13 million with what it is. What's probably one of the biggest things a creepy was that people can expect to see that. I mean, something that, you know, bad that you're just like very excited about for people to see.
Jill Bennett 28:15
There's so many things. I mean, I think just the giant custom characters. It's funny because I was talking to someone, a customer, and he's like, Oh, if you ever want to sell that monster, let me know. We're like, Yeah, that was custom made for us. It's a one off. So there's a lot of like, giant things to see that you're not going to see anywhere else because my husband is all about being unique.
Rich Bennett 28:36
Right.
Jill Bennett 28:37
So like like diamonds. When I say Diane, I mean, like, 12, 13 feet tall.
Rich Bennett 28:41
Wow.
Jill Bennett 28:42
Monsters. There's a really cool doll. It looks like it looks like a baby doll, but imagine it being like a 13 foot tall baby doll. Super cool.
Wendy Beck 28:52
Oh, and you're. You were ready to get on me about clowns.
Rich Bennett 28:55
Something about baby dolls just are freaky.
Wendy Beck 28:58
Well in any scary movie they.
Rich Bennett 28:59
You know, but there are some
Wendy Beck 29:01
Sitting
Rich Bennett 29:01
real.
Wendy Beck 29:01
on the shelf.
Rich Bennett 29:02
Some real haunted baby doll. What's the one?
Jill Bennett 29:05
Yes,
Rich Bennett 29:05
Yeah. Which
Jill Bennett 29:06
kind
Rich Bennett 29:06
is
Jill Bennett 29:06
of.
Wendy Beck 29:06
Is that
Rich Bennett 29:06
based
Wendy Beck 29:06
a.
Rich Bennett 29:07
off a true story. Yes. Yeah, it's. It's some museum.
Wendy Beck 29:11
Okay, Well, I didn't know that, so.
Rich Bennett 29:13
Yeah. Like, Oh, no. I mean, I a spirit of mine, but a baby doll. That baby doll turned. Oh, new. No new. No new. New, new. That baby doll won't become headless. New.
Wendy Beck 29:27
Well, like she said, the there's fear. Everybody has different fears. So you you know, you're touching all of the you know.
Jill Bennett 29:36
The hot points.
Wendy Beck 29:36
Yes.
Rich Bennett 29:38
So is there anything that you guys.
Wendy Beck 29:39
I'm not saying what my phobia is.
Rich Bennett 29:41
When it. Creepy boys that you don't have yet.
Jill Bennett 29:45
Oh, absolutely.
Rich Bennett 29:45
Are you trying to find?
Jill Bennett 29:46
Absolutely. There's always things that we're
now mainly it's going to see like, you know, how does it go, you know?
Wendy Beck 29:54
And the themes will change yearly based
Jill Bennett 29:55
Yeah,
Wendy Beck 29:55
on
Jill Bennett 29:56
well.
Wendy Beck 29:56
how it goes.
Jill Bennett 29:58
Things. But there's always I mean, my husband already has like a list, like from the last Halloween show of things that he didn't get that he wants. So it's like already on the list. He's like, Alright, I want this, I want this. There were there was actually a couple of things that once once we found out we were doing Creepy Woods, he actually called the company and said, Do you have these? And he said to me, Jill, they have them in stock and they were in. I'm like.
Wendy Beck 30:20
I guess you have all of this stuff inventoried and like in specific places, it gets put away
Jill Bennett 30:26
Right.
Wendy Beck 30:27
and all kinds of stuff. Yeah, it's it is definitely a big business. I can't even imagine. Like
Rich Bennett 30:32
Well,
Wendy Beck 30:32
to.
Rich Bennett 30:32
just imagine if the guy that that has the form had a place where you could park all them trailers.
Just saying.
Wendy Beck 30:39
All of them were there.
Jill Bennett 30:41
They're all there right now.
Wendy Beck 30:42
Oh, wow.
Jill Bennett 30:42
Nine trailers and their.
Rich Bennett 30:43
He's got enough room.
Jill Bennett 30:44
They're like putting they're like unloading, like all the trailers, everything. Because a lot of the stuff too, is what we use when we did Creepy Woods.
Rich Bennett 30:51
Oh, okay.
Jill Bennett 30:52
So when we did Creepy Woods, we just kept it all. It's basically it's funny because.
Wendy Beck 30:56
But that's different from the stuff that set up at the mall.
Jill Bennett 30:59
Absolutely.
Wendy Beck 31:00
Wow.
Jill Bennett 31:00
Yeah. It's different. You know, there.
Rich Bennett 31:02
I look forward to this.
Jill Bennett 31:03
It's a lot of fun and, you know, and if anything.
Wendy Beck 31:05
Com. I'm going to make sure.
Rich Bennett 31:07
There we go.
Wendy Beck 31:08
And, uh, I guess I'll get.
Jill Bennett 31:10
But remember, this was put together in two.
Wendy Beck 31:12
I might be waiting outside. I might be waiting at.
Rich Bennett 31:14
It is outside.
Wendy Beck 31:15
At the tour bus or the drop off location I.
Rich Bennett 31:18
Are you? Definitely.
Wendy Beck 31:19
Oh.
Rich Bennett 31:19
You know when you guys are going so I can make sure you're not
Wendy Beck 31:22
We'll
Rich Bennett 31:22
one
Wendy Beck 31:22
see.
Rich Bennett 31:22
side.
I will. And if I can't make
Jill Bennett 31:26
A
Rich Bennett 31:26
it,
Jill Bennett 31:26
polar end.
Rich Bennett 31:27
I will make sure I tell JR or. Or you who can be good cause she's never met you.
Wendy Beck 31:33
I don't want to be scared.
Rich Bennett 31:36
Tell them to protect you.
Wendy Beck 31:39
No, I'm just teasing.
Jill Bennett 31:40
Always get you out.
Wendy Beck 31:41
It's too much for you because
Jill Bennett 31:42
Because people
Wendy Beck 31:42
people.
Jill Bennett 31:42
ask us all the time.
Wendy Beck 31:43
Oh, really?
Jill Bennett 31:45
Yeah, because I bandits curse. We have, like, multiple exits to get out. We've had that happen.
Wendy Beck 31:50
I'm
Jill Bennett 31:50
Some people
Wendy Beck 31:50
sure.
Jill Bennett 31:50
go in and come out.
Wendy Beck 31:51
Right. Like, I'm not doing this. I don't even like the little haunted house on the boardwalk.
Jill Bennett 31:58
They still do that?
Wendy Beck 31:59
Yeah, I think it's. Yeah. I mean, that's scary to me.
Jill Bennett 32:01
We go to them all the time in Wildwood.
Wendy Beck 32:03
Yeah. What's it?
Jill Bennett 32:04
A pretzel ride that you drive on this
Wendy Beck 32:06
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 32:06
little
Wendy Beck 32:06
Little.
Jill Bennett 32:07
you go through.
Wendy Beck 32:07
Little.
Rich Bennett 32:08
Yeah, I know. I mean, I remember going through there. There's nothing scary about that.
Jill Bennett 32:13
They don't usually have actors. They usually have like.
Wendy Beck 32:15
Yeah, a little. Yes.
Jill Bennett 32:16
Really
Wendy Beck 32:16
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 32:16
loud sounds and.
Wendy Beck 32:17
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 32:17
Have you ever been to Disney World?
Wendy Beck 32:19
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 32:19
Have you gone? What's the thing down there?
Wendy Beck 32:21
No, I didn't go
Rich Bennett 32:22
No.
Wendy Beck 32:22
in there.
Rich Bennett 32:23
Oh, okay. I've never been busier.
Jill Bennett 32:26
Really?
Rich Bennett 32:26
I mean. Well, not for the attractions now.
Oh, it's going to be fine.
Wendy Beck 32:33
Suckered into this.
Rich Bennett 32:35
So are you guys always looking for volunteers
Jill Bennett 32:37
Absolutely.
Rich Bennett 32:37
as well?
Jill Bennett 32:38
I mean, we are hiring staff. So
Rich Bennett 32:39
Mm
Jill Bennett 32:39
if
Rich Bennett 32:39
hmm.
Jill Bennett 32:40
someone can make the 13 nights, well, we're doing we're paying people because we
Rich Bennett 32:43
How
Jill Bennett 32:43
know.
Rich Bennett 32:43
did they get in touch with you guys?
Jill Bennett 32:45
They could go to our Web site. You can go to Creepy Whatcom. You can you can email us its info at Bennet's course dot com.
Rich Bennett 32:52
I have to ask you this. How in the world did you hook up with a buddy of mine? Matthew Scales?
Jill Bennett 32:57
Oh, Matt. You know,
Rich Bennett 32:58
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 32:59
and it's funny you say that because. To me. Make sure you tell him I said hi. So
Rich Bennett 33:03
So.
Jill Bennett 33:03
Matt, actually, he worked for us at Creepy Wood.
Rich Bennett 33:06
Did.
Jill Bennett 33:07
Very I think it was like the first year he was young.
Rich Bennett 33:10
Wow.
Jill Bennett 33:11
That's how I knew. That's how we knew Matt and I. When I started the Bennetts adventures and events I was hooking up with. I was trying to do something hard for County. And I was
Rich Bennett 33:19
Hmm.
Jill Bennett 33:19
hooking up with the Arts Council and I actually went to, like, an event, a gathering.
Rich Bennett 33:23
Right.
Jill Bennett 33:24
And here I run into Matt and I'm like, What are you doing here? Like, don't. I thought he was working at Commerce, and then he moved up to to visit her for he
Rich Bennett 33:30
Right.
Jill Bennett 33:30
was.
Rich Bennett 33:30
He was executive director of.
Jill Bennett 33:32
Yes. He was so.
Rich Bennett 33:33
Executive director.
Jill Bennett 33:34
He was up there. Yeah. So, you know, it's funny, like, we kind of like our paths crossed crossed again. And then he he's, he's now working in like.
Rich Bennett 33:43
Yeah. For Maryland State. He's been on a couple of times, so. And that's how I found out about the blue catfish.
Jill Bennett 33:50
Okay.
Rich Bennett 33:51
Because you came out talking about that oysters.
Jill Bennett 33:53
Okay.
Rich Bennett 33:54
So we got to do another one. Whenever you're ready.
Jill Bennett 33:56
It's funny.
Rich Bennett 33:56
Have
Jill Bennett 33:56
We.
Rich Bennett 33:57
you met Matt? Matt Scales before you?
Wendy Beck 33:58
I don't think so.
Rich Bennett 33:59
Harvard.
Wendy Beck 34:00
No.
Jill Bennett 34:00
He knows everyone. It's funny because I told him that I was because Robin is the one that introduced me to you and he's been getting me like, two easy.
Rich Bennett 34:07
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 34:08
Everything. And I told him about it. He's like, Really? I know him. You know, everybody. He just he's a great guy. He's, you know. You know, he's a great family man. He's.
Rich Bennett 34:18
He is.
Jill Bennett 34:19
Professional. He's just all around. Amazing stuff.
Rich Bennett 34:21
The accusations. Are you going to come in and join us? Unfortunately, he said he couldn't make
Jill Bennett 34:25
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 34:25
it. All right, I'll let you slide this.
Jill Bennett 34:28
He's busy. He's a busy guy.
Rich Bennett 34:29
Oh, great. Great guy.
Jill Bennett 34:31
But I like his sense of humor. He's got a really.
Rich Bennett 34:33
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 34:34
So
Rich Bennett 34:34
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 34:34
he's writing a lot of our ads now and it's like, All right, I love that one. It's funny. And, you know, he's laughing.
Rich Bennett 34:38
I said the 13 days. So I tell you that every Friday and Saturday
Jill Bennett 34:42
Friday, Saturday, Sunday and.
Rich Bennett 34:43
only.
Jill Bennett 34:44
And Halloween. That's pretty much what it is. It's
Rich Bennett 34:46
know on.
Jill Bennett 34:47
a Thursday.
Rich Bennett 34:48
Oh, really?
Jill Bennett 34:49
Hmm. The Thursday.
Rich Bennett 34:51
They do that.
Wendy Beck 34:51
Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Rich Bennett 34:53
I guess they can. I guess they can't control
Wendy Beck 34:54
night.
Rich Bennett 34:55
it. The 34.
Jill Bennett 34:56
Right.
Rich Bennett 34:57
Well, I was thirsty work because last year wasn't it on.
Jill Bennett 35:02
It was a Wednesday, I think. Yeah.
Rich Bennett 35:04
Because we didn't get a lot of kids come through.
Jill Bennett 35:07
Well, you know what they're doing at our school this year. They're giving a two hour delay the next day, which
Rich Bennett 35:11
Really?
Jill Bennett 35:11
great.
Rich Bennett 35:12
That's a good idea.
Jill Bennett 35:13
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 35:13
But they need that for work to.
Jill Bennett 35:14
Yeah, because think about it. Parents are with you know, the teachers are with their own kids.
Rich Bennett 35:18
Yeah. Oh, that. And we like to cook out.
Jill Bennett 35:21
Absolutely.
Rich Bennett 35:21
You know, the adults need candy so that
Jill Bennett 35:23
Absolutely.
Rich Bennett 35:23
when we have the food, the kids get their little.
Wendy Beck 35:26
Trick or treat is usually done by eight.
Jill Bennett 35:28
Yeah.
Wendy Beck 35:29
You know what I mean?
Jill Bennett 35:30
It is.
Rich Bennett 35:31
Not for the adults.
Wendy Beck 35:34
The little one.
Rich Bennett 35:34
Yeah.
Jill Bennett 35:35
Home on Halloween.
Rich Bennett 35:37
Huh?
Jill Bennett 35:37
Come on Halloween come to the haunted house on. Or come to creepy.
Rich Bennett 35:41
I can't. I'll be cooking out. Yeah, we always.
Jill Bennett 35:46
Oh, you do like a big cookout.
Rich Bennett 35:47
Yeah, we pull the grills out my driveway because I live in a car cul de sac court, whatever you want to call it. I'll stop. You have any more questions?
Wendy Beck 35:54
I don't I'm intrigued and I'm going to see if I can make my way.
Rich Bennett 35:58
You will make.
Wendy Beck 35:59
Group and.
Rich Bennett 36:01
If you look, I'll get a hold of Rachel. And if I find out that you're not going.
Look at.
Wendy Beck 36:09
I'll go.
Rich Bennett 36:10
Joe, is there anything you would like to add?
Jill Bennett 36:13
No, that's fine. If anybody wants tickets, they can go to our website. They can go to Bennett's cars.com or creepy Whitcomb. You'll find us online. And I answer the phone. So if anybody wants to call, it's 410 three, two, two, seven, three, three, two.
Rich Bennett 36:26
Say it again.
Jill Bennett 36:27
Four, ten, three, two, two, seven, three, three, two. And we do answer our phone calls. It's funny because people call and say, Wow, I actually got someone. So call me. I'm Jill. You can say hi, Jill. I heard John podcast.
Rich Bennett 36:38
Joe Bennett. Again, no relation that we know of. I think.
What's your husband's name? Alan.
Jill Bennett 36:44
Allen. Yeah, but his dad grew up in Georgia.
Rich Bennett 36:48
My dad grew up in Ohio, so no, I don't know. Does he have any relatives in England?
Jill Bennett 36:54
I'm sure he does. Yeah.
Rich Bennett 36:56
Could be. You never know.
Jill Bennett 36:57
You just don't know where people migrated, right?
Rich Bennett 36:59
This is true. This is true. Jill, thanks a lot.
Jill Bennett 37:03
How much?
